Hi all I been trying to master the Harrier for a while now and with the latest changes attempting to release a gbu in auto mode at altitude is near impossible. The release cue and drop line, have always been squirrely but they are impossible to keep line up now, even if you use Autopilot to guide you. It seem like the parameters for the drop /release have tighten up, to getting a release is dam near impossible. I checked my TDC keybinds before starting a game and they where correct i.e. they reacted as planned. In game I used the DMT to set code on the left screen, then called up the target (stepped to the TGT inflight over 100 miles out to set the DESC BTN left MFD) and then put as normal for me the flight map on the left screen. On the right screen I put the stores page, armed the weapons and set the parameters for release. Then called up the TPOD 40 miles out prior to calling up the TPOD it was displaying the ECM screen. About around the TGT showed up and I started to zoom in on it, just a tiny bit of correction was need, right/left TDC corrections worked fine. UP down//Forward/Aft was reversed. I chased the drop line as usual but at 3.0 seconds it took off to the right and I could not catch it, no release made. Flew pass the TGT 20 miles, turned 180 to strike the TGT again once again left and right TDC worked correctly but the AFT/ Forward were reversed. I stopped the game enter adjust controls and reversed the Aft and Forward bindings reentered the game and both bindings worked correctly. Last night when I flew I came across the same problem that the Maverick shooters were having except I never call up a second display screen, I did fine that the TPOD switched to INS (right screen) and that the TPOD TDC was totally reversed, that is up was down, down was up, right was left and left was right. How the TPOD switched to INS unknown. Now earlier in that flight I called up the DMT (right screen) to set the code but that was it right back to ECM screen. Also during that flight I also stopped the game when experiencing TDC reversal, I entered the controller page and reversed the keybinds (I for Y and Y for I to correct the left right of TDC action this did nothing, so I reentered the controller page and reversed the TM key actions left became right and right became left, this did not work either, so I gave up and went to bed. Since I have been flying the Harrier I noticed the drop cue and release line can get erratic near release but never this bad, no aircraft can turn that fast with 5 seconds to go, they need to look at that. I'm so confused how to set up the TDC now I guess I'm back to CIP bombing and iron bombs. I would guess this all came about with the NOV. 2 release because everything seem to work correctly before this up date. The NOV 17th release did not seem to effect the Harrier as far as read the update

OK, so Im moving this to the Harrier general thread, there is new TPOD logic as well as procedures for dropping JDAMs in the Q4 update which I recommend reading thoroughly. The DMT is NOT used. When using the TPOD SSS depress twice in under .8 seconds to make TPOD HTS mode, it will operate in reverse if it is not because it is not the designated. Go AG mode, master arm on and select the JDAM ( make sure that the DESG on the EHSD is boxed) and make sure you're in AUTO either via the OSBs or via the ACMI panel. Once in TPOD mode, put the TPOD in point track (PT). Laser range then Waypoint Increment (Winc) long ( hold for over .8 seconds) to make the target T0. You should then see the range rings appear on the EHSD as well as the steering cues on the HUD. Release when in range.

Also multiple JDAMs are able to be dropped in a single pass by either slewing the TPOD to the next target after following the steps above or creating markpoints and Winc short to cycle target points and release when in range.

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

Maybe I was not clear, I was dropping GBU 12 a 500lb bomb as we know with a laser kit on it not a JDAM. The selected TGT was the STP point so no reconfigure of the bombing system was really needed. SO from the above response I am to understand that a double tap of .8 seconds is required in order for the TPOD to recognize it is the TGT mode (HTS mode) and to activate the bomb mode for release, for the GBU?

I had trouble with GBU's until the last update as far as I can see it's as follows:

  • Set Ground mode & Master Arm
  • Stores Page - Box GBU 12
  • Set GBU12 Fuses and Mode AUTO
  • Have EHSD Left MFD and TPOD Right MFD
  • ON EHSD set laser code 1688 or alternative (unbox Code afterwards)
  • Find a Target in the TPOD (Using Sensor Select Down, Down (Twice) to be able to slew around.
  • On target hold WP Increment Long to set TPOD's target as new WP Target T0 (as you do with JDAM)
  • T0 shown as Waypoint in EHSD - box up "DESG"
  • Bomb fall line will appear - Align with fall line and hold pickle for release time as per previous method
  • Activate Laser
  • SHACK

I see that the old method where as the TPOD use to lock on now require a 0.8 second click to lock on the TGT and set the release mode, The old method of TDC action switch does not work now. I misunderstood the video, in action required for release . Tried another MSN to nite and was able to get releases with no problem with TDC xhair reversing.
