Dangerzone Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 A question for VR users who use exact / replica HOTAS controllers (coming from a X56 user): How do you get around accessing additional functions not available on the HOTAS? (ie, accessing kneeboard, views, or other options)? I really like the idea of having a HOTAS setup like the real thing, I just find myself wishing I had one extra button to put in modifiers so I can increase the functionality and do additional things such as bring up a kneeboard, flip through pages, or activate voice-attack / vaicom, use VR Zoom, slew mouse, etc which of course aren't really available on the real thing in real life but used in-game). Do any of these controllers have an extra miscellaneous button/control somewhere that can be employed for this use, or how do you guys go about getting the extra functions while in VR?
PhoenixRising Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 In the A-10, I use the paddle switch as modifier, then use HOTAS buttons for the kneeboard, etc. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk 1
dburne Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Yep same here, with a modifier I increase number of commands and have them all assigned to my HOTAS. hornblower793 Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I use an additional Razer gamepad to the side for some functions, and VoiceAttack / Vaicom (via the PTT button) to call up items such as the kneeboard. I have a VA profile daisy-chained to the Vaicom one for non-Vaicom commands I have also repurposed the Engage / Disengage autopilot button on the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle since the pinky button does the same thing Windows 11 Home ¦ Z790 AORUS Elite AX motherboard ¦ i7-13700K ¦ 64GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 memory @ 5600MHz ¦ Samsung 990 Pro 1TB SSD for OS, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD for DCS ¦ MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming X Trio 24GB ¦ Virpil WarBRD base with VFX grip, Thrustmaster A10c and F/A-18 grips ¦ VKB Gunfighter Mk4 and MCG Pro ¦ Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle ¦ VKB STECS Throttle ¦ Virpil TCS rotor base with Shark and AH-64D grips ¦ MFG Crosswinds ¦ Total Controls Multi-Function Button Box ¦ Pimax Crystal
