Wim1976 Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 In the explanation of the mission the user is told that the DLZ is shown on the HUD. But I get only a DLZ with radar aquisition of the target and not by locking the target via the HUD only. However the radar acquisition of the target is not explained. (as a sidenote: This would be very helpful with targets in flying towards you, because for a visual approach of the target it goes too fast to get a lock on the plane) Is this wrong, or do I have missed something.
imacken Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 As you can see from my post on this below, I feel that the most recent TMs on the Viper fall way short of ED's usual high standards. Compare these to the Hornet or the A-10C TMs and you'll see what I mean. There is very little description (or training) in the basics of what the lessons are about, and everything happens too quickly for the novice. 9thHunt Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 I've noticed the same thing. I've also had trouble finding the targets and tracking planes on radar in the air-to-air training missions, which tends to get in the way of completing the missions, plus I'm convinced that some of the triggers are either broken or too easy to trigger inadvertently. On top of the mission bugs, the training missions are rather limited in scope, presumably because they were added early in development. We need training on more of the advanced features, like the T-pod and the HARMs.

Without a radar lock, the missile has no way of determining range to target, so your aircraft cannot display a DLZ. To get range and closure speed information, you'll need to acquire the target on radar. The easiest way to do this in close is by using the ACM radar modes in Dogfight Mode. Enter Dogfight Mode with the switch on the throttle, then hit TMS Up to enter ACM Boresight mode. This will place a radar aiming cross on the HUD, or an elliptical aiming cue on the JHMCS, which will lock a target within 10nm. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. imacken Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 That’s all true, but missing the point. Not how it plays out in the TM instructions. 1 Intel i7 12700K · MSI Gaming X Trio RTX 4090 · ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-A Wi-Fi · MSI 32" MPG321UR QD · Samsung 970 500Gb M.2 NVMe · 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 1Tb · 2Tb HDD · 32Gb Corsair Vengance 3000MHz DDR4 · Windows 11 · Thrustmaster TPR Pedals · Tobii Eye Tracker 5 · Thrustmaster F/A-18 Hornet Grip · Virpil MongoosT-50CM3 Base · Virpil Throttle MT-50 CM3 · Virpil Alpha Prime Grip · Virpil Control Panel 2 · Thrustmaster F-16 MFDs · HTC Vive Pro 2 · Total Controls Multifunction Button Box
