hannibal Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 I was watching an episode of the A-Team, I think the episode was called "when you coming back range rider"..... Always been a fan of the A-Team, a show with brought action, with heicopters involved... Anyways, in this episode, Murdock comandeers a Bell Helicopter, and then goes along trains tracks that run cross contry. I am awed by the way the pilot wiggles at low altitude, while dodgin trees...you can also see the blades cut branches off.. this is the subject i wanted to bring up. just watching this episode, i see the rotor blades of the bell reflect the light upon the blades in respect to the sun as the helicopter rolls left and right back and forth.... I just wanted to say its already amazing to see the cockpit glass reflect light in DCS Black shark... I THINK the relection of light against the rotor blades will ADD a more realistic effect to the visual look to the model...instead of the current flutter of blades of flashing ... i mean black shark blades are already nice looking, light reflection will add more feel (look) to the blades. I hate that rotor blade bug in FS:X SP2, where the blades are behind the clouds and the helicopter body is in front of the clouds....and all other games with helos..(BF2, frontlines fuel of war, etc) are just the normal flutter of blades flashing..(TOO BORING LOOKING) Another effect I like is in EECH which Blades Curve upward toward the tip of the blade , making it almost like a "V" shape when the copter is flying...usually most games, depict the rotor blades when spinning as a Flat Disc. I think DCS has this effect...but anyways, i think these two things will give Rotor Blades some High Definition. a photo of light relecting on blades... http://www.air-attack.com/MIL/ka50/ka50_header.jpg find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
EvilBivol-1 Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Skin reflections are always a tough effect to achieve well. Not only is it limited by the abilities of the graphics engine, but also lighting conditions and the type of paint used on the surface in real life. To reproduce this correctly in the engine without making the model look too shiny and "fake," requires just the right touch. In earlier betas, ED had experimented with a different surface type for the helicopter model, but it did not function well and was rejected. Although not out of the question for TFCSE, new visual effects like this will probably have to wait until the new engine. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer.
