Dear pilots

I'm new to the F/A 18C, and I know how the autopilot works, through the UFC. But are there not a way to assign buttons or switches on my HOTAS, mostly for attitude and for altitude mode. I ask, because in some other aircraft I have been flying in DCS, there are. The MIG 21, the Harrier and the Mirage to mention a few.

By the way, I use Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and stick.

Regards

For BARO hold, I have one button to bring up the AP on the UFC.  Once it is up, I have another button to select BARO hold.  Not sure if this is what you are trying to accomplish as it takes two button movements for me.

I am also using a Warthog HOTAS.

Like Drac says, your best bet is to assign buttons on your HOTAS to the AP UFC button and the UFC OSB 3 button.  Depending what you are using to program your joystick, you might be able to "chain" the two actions to one press (i.e. in Thrustmaster TARGET software).  If you do that, realize that both of these presses will need a slightly longer hold than a quick press to get consistent response (i.e. needs a down, hold, release rather than a down, release).  There is no single AP button to activate the autopilot like some other aircraft because of the way the AP works in the F-18 (selecting modes through the UFC OSB's).

Thanks for your replies.

like Rob10 says, there is no single AP button to activate the autopilot, so Drac, how do you program the two buttons, you mention?

Simply assign one to the UFC AP button ("UFC Function Selector Pushbutton - A/P") and the other to the UFC OSB 3 ("UFC Option Select Pushbutton 3") which is the BARO ALT selection in AP.

Not through TARGET software.  I do it through the DCS options screen.

Please tell me which assignment you have? I can only find "autopilot disengage" in DCS options
