Hi, I thought it might be a useful resource for the likely many new users in the next few months if there was a thread with a simple record of settings and specs with results? I for one have been struggling to find the best combination and baselines...what do people think? would be easier than having to trawl back through scores of pages of posts in 6 or 7 different threads....? Key information would be:

1) Basic PC spec ( dont bother if its in the sig...)

2) WMR portal settings for headset display

3) Confirm version of steam VR being used ( beta or not)

4) Steam VR home % age

5) App specific % age

6) Nvidia control panel settings

7) DCS in game settings

😎 FPSVR results

Thoughts?

There seem to be some wildly conflicting results going around and this may help get a better concencus on what works best. For example, using Big Neweys settings I have been unable to get anything like his frame rate of 90 or so, despite having an extremely similar PC and set up....so its clear there are many factors to try and drill down on.

System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.

its a very sensible idea, but, like all things it will rely on people reading "this" ...

in many cases the delta is background processes, and that pretty difficult to track on Windows, because for example someone with a Winwing throttle using the integration to get the switch positions and lights  correctly in DCS, will have a different code base (vs someone) who is using warthog and just turning the lights off vs  someone who is using Stream Deck integration via export.lua when in 2d mode not realising that the export actually burns CPU cycles... vs the person who uses iCue software and Aurora Synch who dont realise that the lighting service east between 1 ad 2% of CPU time etc...

but as a baseline sure

SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero
SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO

It's a nice idea, but it just won't help.  There are too many DCS settings, types of scenario, hardware components, etc. etc. for you to be able to make any logical sense of it all.  Been tried often enough here, including by Ed themselves.

The best thing is simply to see what works for you. There is no magic wand that helps everyone.

Experiment with shadows, MSAA, SS and see what works for you.

My opinion on this has always been to leave the FPS counter off in the beginning and experiment with settings until you get an acceptable result according to your own eyes and the things that you value in your individual VR experience.  After you get it to that point and want to keep pushing the envelope, then you can turn the FPS counters back on and start chasing the dragon.  Comparing settings and results is a good baseline I guess, but people also sometimes compare their results to the results of others and wonder "What am I doing wrong?", which leads to frustration in the end.  Benchmarking software is great, just as long as you don't forget to just look out the window and see if there's really anything to be getting frustrated with.  Ask yourself "Can I really see a difference of 5 FPS?  Is it a showstopper?"
