D-Scythe Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I've been thinking about this a lot, and was just wondering if it was a possibility after playing through some CAS missions. Flying over the FLOT (forward line of troops, as in a ground battle) in Lock On seems a bit sterile currently, as there's either not enough ground units participating to make it interesting 6000 m in the air, or there are too many units, so FPS drops to a slide show. So I was just wondering if it was possible to implement something like an area where random explosions and sporadic gun fire just occur? IMO, having those extra ground explosions popping around on the ground would provide a greater feel of immersion, and without the super-slowdowns because there are no ground units for the computer to process. This would be considerably useful in something like an air supremacy mission over the FLOT, where you can actually see the FLOT, or in a future project like a dynamic campaign, as we could have less units contributing to the same overall affect of a major ground offensive. In a sense, it could actually be more realistic as not all explosions and stuff come from tanks, artillery and IFVs as modelled in Lock On. There could be anti-tank missiles, mortars, grenades, mines, and other stuff going off that could be fired from infantry, and this could be reproduced in such a way that we won't have to include the infantry units. Anyway, just a thought, and my 2 cents.
spearsd Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Re: Devs, can this be possible? Random explosions? D-Scythe, I like this idea!!! Being able to drop it as an icon in the editor with a radius of effect and density would be mucho-cool! It would really add an extra feeling of immersion in those runs through hot-zones if combined with AA and/or SAM. For now, I'll settle for FC under my tree  Maybe, in the future though? -spearsd I've been thinking about this a lot, and was just wondering if it was a possibility after playing through some CAS missions. GGTharos Posted December 24, 2004 Posted December 24, 2004 Actually some decent AAA would be great. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
D-Scythe Posted December 24, 2004 Author Posted December 24, 2004 Apparently neither NATO nor Russia uses optically aimed AAA and flak of 85-100 mm calibur anymore :( Kinda think of it, the only sim who really modelled these explosions in the FLOT well was Falcon 4. It was so amazing to fly air supremacy and CAS missions over the FLOT, as you can clearly see the explosions from a distance. It gives you the feeling that you are actually flying over a huge ground battle below. Coupled with its DC engine and immersive comms, there is no doubt in my mind that Falcon 4 is the ultimate 'battlefield' simulation, but the sad part is, with a fair amount of investment, Lock On can be just as good, if not better. A perfect waste, imo...
ED Team Chizh Posted December 24, 2004 ED Team Posted December 24, 2004 It is good idea. We shall think, how it to do. I like very much too those flashes and rockets above FLOT line in the Falcon. In the following add-on we shall try to optimize ground units that they did not consume so many resources of a computer. After that they can be exposed much more. Nice to know you are hearing to what we gamers out here are asking for. 8) Can't wait to see your job done.
