Kula66 Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 When did the F-15 HUD change from ribbon type displays for height and speed to acutual values? I've seen pictures of 15E with values shown - is this the same on later 15Cs? These seem easier to read exact values - especially useful in A2A refueling when you have to match speeds. Also, will we ever see angled AOA lines on the 15 HUD - where the lines angle towards the horizontal?? Thanks, James
ED Team Olgerd Posted December 25, 2004 ED Team Posted December 25, 2004 F-15C HUD has only "ribbon-type" airspeed and altitude symbology. Only minor changes was made to HUD indication from F-15A to F-15C. Most changes are related to A-A employment. About wich angled AOA lines you speak? May be angled pitch lines? ED Team Wags Posted December 26, 2004 ED Team Posted December 26, 2004 Re: F-15 HUD question The F-15C and F-15E have very different HUD systems. Not just in the hardware but the presentation and symbology. -Matt When did the F-15 HUD change from ribbon type displays for height and speed to acutual values? Kula66 Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 I think all the HUD pictures/videos I've seen I think come from 15E HUDs .. I've been searching for some definate 15C HUDs but with no luck! So they are just different - doesn't help cross assignment, but I guess that seldom happens. I must say the the ribbon type indicators for speed and altitude take up a lot of space and aren't very exact - I do think the Russian HUDs are better in this respect. Thanks gents, James
GGTharos Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 I have the Eagle RAGE clip which shows an F-15C HUD in some gun mode ... indeed there's no Vc, and the epipper doesn't even seem to display the distance the way we're used to. There's a bunch of other symbology on the HUD which I odn't udnerstand, but not much - additionally, the line we see in LOMAC isn't drawn form the center - it's drawn form the target as far as I can see. Edit: One of the numbers SEEMS to be climb rate, not sure...the AoA is displayed in that particular place when tracking a target. Kula66 Posted December 26, 2004 Author Posted December 26, 2004 Yep, in that vid there is also a little triangle which seems to track the target ... but the AOA lines are parrallel just like LO, unlike on the 15E. James
GGTharos Posted December 26, 2004 Posted December 26, 2004 The triangle is just the target marker (instead of the square we get) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
