maxTRX Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Can anyone do a pirouette in a Hornet after the latest OB update? I know flight model didn't change... it never does.

The first time I've seen this in DCS Hornet. Fun, fun, fun.

Did you have spin recovery switch armed/enabled when you got this display on the DDI? Cheers, Ziptie No, you don't need to do that from what I remember reading about it. Besides, the rapid yaw lasted for a second or two before it recovered.

Wasn't aware the DDI would display that without that switch be in the armed/enable position. To be fair, I've not really performed maneuvers like that in my short 3 year DCS experience. Primarily fly the A10C and Hornet secondary, and have never been in a situation where that maneuver (or a stall of any sort really) has been introduced. Cheers, Ziptie The switch stays in NORM by default. When placed in RCVY, the spin mode is enabled (visible on all DDI's) but the a/s condition still has to be met to disable CAS and the control interconnects and give the pilot full control authority. It's 120 knots +/- 15. Exits back to CAS above 245 knots. In NORM, there are 3 conditions that need to be met: a/s 120 +/-15, un-commanded yaw and the stick placed in the direction of arrows on DDI's. The 'SPIN MODE' changes to 'SPIN MODE ENABLED' at that point. It exits back to CAS when either a/s goes above 245 or the yaw is less then 15/sec. Back to pirouette: I think I was entering a few knots too fast, has to be less then 210 or my AOA was slightly below 25. I guess I was expecting at least a 'loaded roll' but the jet was just doing aileron rolls, perhaps I was the one 'loaded', hehe. I can do it now with no problem. If you get too aggressive with rudders the spin mode arrows might pop up. In the real jet this is suppressed when the pirouette logic is invoked. From NFM000: "The FCS incorporates pirouette logic to produce abrupt heading reversals at high AOA (>25°) and low airspeed (<210 KCAS). Pirouette logic can be engaged above 25° AOA and below 210 KCAS by applying full lateral stick and pedal in the same direction. When the criteria are met, the FCS recognizes the pilot’s desire to rapidly reverse aircraft heading and displaces control surfaces appropriately, resulting in a well controlled maneuver. Spin display logic is modified during a commanded pirouette to prevent nuisance spin indications. Aircraft motion can be stopped at the desired heading by applying full lateral stick and pedal in the direction opposite that which initiated the maneuver."
SUBS17 Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 To do the Pirouette you do not touch any of the switches and the spin recovery mode should never appear on the HUD or MFD. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

Correct. It came up since we drifted off into spin recovery discussion... for which there is no need to flip it to RCVY either. Also, as mentioned earlier the arrows on DDI should not show up as they do now (occasionally) when the pirouette logic kicks in.
