NOOBIE VIEW QUESTION - COCKPIT VIEWS AND MFDS

Recommended Posts

Just getting started in the Harrier and was wondering how people access the MFDs as the warning light panels obscure some of the MFD buttons?  I've heard of snap views, would they apply here?  Thanks.

You really need track ir at least in a flight sim or even better a VR headset. Then you can just lean and look around it. No idea how you can do it without it thou.

It’s worth every penny!

I suggested a toggle to remove the Warning light panels a while back.  Having track IR / VR is still unattainable for some.  Either financially or technically.  A toggle would offer the best solution for those not in a VR / Head tracking environment.

Hi Guys , this might sound silly but I access the buttons through the warning panels i.e. the cursor will change to the green cross when you are in the right place. then it is just a case of memorising what the buttons are.🙂

This is a bit of a workaround, but I found that there's only a couple of mfd buttons that I need to use- mainly the ones for tpod zoom, tpod tv/ir view & now the desig button in ehsd mode - so I mapped a couple of spare buttons on my throttle to those mfd buttons. Works fine as long as I'm on the right mfd page otherwise it can cause some strangeness.

A while back I mapped the ecm/rwr page to a hotas button & that works really well to quickly check local threats.

Also - I can really vouch for a head tracker of some kind - makes a massive difference for any plane, but especially those with clickable cockpits. Track ir is the one everyone knows, but my Trackhat was way cheaper & works well for me. Even cheaper versions are available too.

You can SLIDE the view over to view those hidden buttons with RSHIFT-RCTRL-numpad (4 or 6) Key

I think you can define a Snap View as well, but I haven't ever tried it. Agreed that TRACK-IR is the way to go, but sometimes I can't quite get the "Gangsta Lean" right...
