eduwushu Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 I've been having an issue playing the persian gulf mission: dawn riders. With that loadout after I discharge my first walleye on my left wing obviously the plane wants to roll hard to the right due to the weight difference in that side. I compensate as much as i can applying left trim. Then when I launch the second walleye my plane starts to want to roll very hard to the left. I assumed because of the roll trim i applied earlier so i apply back trim to the right. But it doesnt matter how much trim i set, the plane keeps wanting to roll strongly to the left. I tried a lot of things to try to reset the control surface state: pressing FCS reset, activating and deactivating autopilot.... with no success. The plane will keep rolling to the left whatever I do. At this point I was wondering if this can be a bug or I am missing something important. The loadout after dropping the walleyes is balanced, with two fuel tanks, two aim 9m and two aim7 and the datalink in the center, so nothing should be pulling harder on one side. Any ideas? Thanks!
Chain_1 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 (edited) For me, at least, it won't trim out if you have autopilot on. Disengage the autopilot, then try trimming. Failing that, bring up your FCS page to see if the controls are reacting normally to your trim inputs. Edited January 12, 2021 by Chain_1
rob10 Posted January 12, 2021 Posted January 12, 2021 Any chance your RIGHT trim control isn't bound properly (or has a double bind preventing it from working)? With a balanced plane try adding a bunch of right trim and see if you can make the plane roll right or not. Likely you could look at the actual knob in the cockpit and see if it's moving to the right too. And definitely make sure you cancel the autopilot with the paddle (just having no : on any of the A/P options on the UFC isn't enough).
eduwushu Posted January 13, 2021 Author Posted January 13, 2021 Yes the autopilot was completely off. I just turned it on and off to see it by any chace it will retrim the plane automatically and at least that would work. I did bring the FCS page into the DDI, but couldnt see anything wrong. I also enabled the input visualization panel to check the input state. I have a video filming the issue if you want to check it:
ED Team cofcorpse Posted January 13, 2021 ED Team Posted January 13, 2021 You have some left trim on this video. It can be seen by small cross on the controls indicator.
eduwushu Posted January 13, 2021 Author Posted January 13, 2021 Hi @cofcorpse ok I didnt know that cross is the trim. Then the issue is that the trim hat in my TM Warthog is not trimming back to the right. I checked that the control was properly assigned by going to the controls panel and pressing the right trim. And it correctly took me to the proper entry. So for whatever reason even if its mapped to the correct function is not applying it. Is there a way to check if its been assigned to other function as well by mistake?

I noticed that I had accidentally bound it to UP+RIGHT when assigning key binds to an aircraft at one point. I actually didn't realize that the trim switch was 8 way hat switch on the Warthog stick up to that point. Hope that is it. ALSO: You press FCS reset rather than T/O TRIM when trying to revert back to take off trim (I assume that is what you were trying to accomplish as a last ditch effort).
