I flew the Flanker today after several Su-25T missions...

WOW! It's amazing how good Flanker-drivers have it in terms of trim and landing and acceleration. You don't realize it until you go without it! I felt as if I had gone from being a truck-driver to being the Lord thy God.

 

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how accurate the flight model is for the Su-27 compared to the Su-25? I assume that the T-toad is more accurate.

 

I flew the Su-27 when it was an ISS game, then Flanker 2.0, then now. How has the flight model changed over the years. "Tell me a story grandpa!"

The Su-25 is leaps and bounds ahead in terms of flight model.

When DCS brings out its Su-27, you'll find it'll punish you for poor landings as well, though they won't be as difficult at the frog's ;)

The main thing I noticed going from Flanker 2.x to LOMAC was that they threw the whole "slipping on a banana peel" fake stall out the window. The stalls are still scripited, mind you, but not as bad as Flanker. In Flanker, if you got an AoA over limit warning, the plane would start to wallow around, no matter what you were doing at the time. Doing this in LOMAC will do....nothing, basically. You get the warning, but it doesn't automatically start making you flop around. On the flip side, it really forced you not to yank back on the stick and made you think about what you were doing.

 

I can say that the DCS plane I want the most is the Eagle, but the flight model I'm looking forward to the most is the Flanker.

Both FM's will be great; you'll probably find out at some point you can cobra the F-15 as well ... if you don't mind doing things to the engines that they don't like :D

Wild guess on my part though.

It'll be interesting to finally and truly see the difference that operating 10000' higher than the opposition makes.

Yeah, I hear that. I want to see that one for myself. Its one thing to hear about it, but it can be hard to appreciate it beyond just using your imagination.

 

Now that I think about it, I want to see the F-16C model just as much. You can play Falcon 4.0's kiddy coaster FM and then watch F-16 aerobatics, and see that clearly a lot is missing. It seems like the real thing has so much more control in stalls. Also, you see HUD tapes of F-16s getting guns kills at under 200 knots. It obviously has a lot more low speed control than Falcon's FM gives it.

Falcon 4 feels like a game when flying the plane. Their argument is that they have modeled the flight controls system which use all the computer inputs to fly the plane and doesn't let you make any overtly stupid moves. If that is how it really flies than it must be one boring plane!
