Hello,

I have recently taken a real interest in making my own peripherals for DCS. Stuff like MFD, gauges, switches, collectives and stick. You get the point 😄. I would like to export things from DCS to my hardware. Think about things like:

-MFD screens

-Gear status

-Fuel status

-Warning lights

-CMS program info

Now I saw there is some software for that, but it looked like a work around. I am personally not afraid to get my hands dirty with code. So I would love to have a official API for DCS that makes it so that I can extract information about the aircraft status. I know things like fuel status will only be used by more dedicated simmers, but exporting MFD screens is something a lot more people would do if it was officially supported.

The reason I don't like work arounds is that they can break any time.

The basic framework for this stuff is already in place, or people wouldn't be able to do what they're doing and pull the data they do, such as for SimShaker, DCS-Bios, etc. They're not working magic, unholy rites over there. The data you're asking for is already available in a format you can tap it.

There is no obvious, easy way to go about accomodating the inumerable variations of imaginative construction people come up with. Exporting most screens or data points is just a case of whipping up relevant LUA scripts. Tools have already been created and provided to enable people to do what you're wanting to do. I suggest using them. If you don't like the ones provided by others as aides, you are more than welcome to whip up your own. Like I said, the core data is already there, or these ''workarounds'' wouldn't work. That should be obvious enough.

Aside from that, the idea any other solution would somehow be easier or wouldn't possibly ''break at any time'' is patently false. Stroll through the bug reports, random stuff breaks on a daily basis. If anything, 3rd party solutions are more likely to get fixed quickly as it's not going to be shuffled off for months/years as low priority while they perform engine overhauls.
