JoaquinViggo Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Hello, i am looking for inspirations and know/how on how to set up interesting and semi-realistic flightplans for the A-10c. I tend to just built my flightplans from waypoints, where waypoints are both actual waypoints for navigation as well as target points for known targets. I would assume that this is not perfectly realistic, as i imagine that known targets would generally not be put into the main flight plan?! I also experimented with "initial points" that you put down in the editor and then built your own flightplan from them in the CDU, but this felt like a weird workaround and is probably also not realistic. Also what is the intended use for the init points in the scope of DCS? Are they for mostly for JTAC related tasking? I know it's a very broad question and i don't look for specific answers, just maybe some ideas how to use the limited options of the ME to built a flightplan that's somewhat realistic in regards to preplanned targets and general layout. 1
Caster Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 DCS Liberation is great for generating a more realistic flight plan with packages, flights, time on target etc. There's some interesting examples of gulf war flight plans in a channel in the tactical dcs discord if you want to see what the real thing looked like for the RAF 1 Fly fast and leave a pretty wreck
Snoopy Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 Liberation is great but the flight plans are not realistic per say. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
Caster Posted February 24, 2021 Posted February 24, 2021 More so than they would be if you're an idiot (like me) just bashing stuff together in the ission editor. The update introducing packages instead of single flights is mostly what I'm referring to 1 Fly fast and leave a pretty wreck

I guess the very broad answer would be - "it depends" If you strike a fixed, well known Target it absolutely makes sense to have the IP and Target incorporated in your Flightplan. If you´re out on a CAS MIssion, not so much. For these I usually have 2 FP´s. One with all the normal NAV Points and one with just the CP and maybe 2-3 specific ones where I can hammer in quickly the Targets without cluttering the main FP. The Initial Points are a quick way to build/ add/ edit your Flightplan in the Cockpit. Airspace for the most is as regulated as are Roads and you may think of the IP´s as the Names of junctions in the Airways. See here how that looks like in RL: https://skyvector.com/ It´s way easier and less prone to errors typing in words than a multitude of numbers. 1
