Basic models with upgrades, rather than eternal early release...

I'm not sure if this has been said before, but what if, specially in the case of early generations of fighters (2nd, 3rd...), instead of the early release of a newer model, came first the most basic model there was? Then maybe adding the variant with radar, with more weaponry, etc... navigation capabilities as they appeared, etc...

Like Aerges is planning with the F1...

If you don't like early access, don't buy it, because, newsflash, it's not going to be fully featured anytime soon.

More to the point of your post, because that's not nearly so clever as you think, when considering that typically means the engines, avionics, and overall handling characteristics of early versions are often completely different from later versions, from a development standpoint they are completely separate modules that will have little in common. And from a practical common sense standpoint, what's the difference between ''*insert blank* is not in yet'' vs ''*insert blank* is not planned period'', which is really what we're talking about. End result is the same, except one way there is an expectation of expanded capability later on. But, oh yeah, that EA tag wouldn't be there, and that's good for the e-ragers.

I just thought to expand. Some of the current modules have variants. Worth noting : these ''variants'' are all extremely similar.

I don't think this is particularly realistic. Off the top of my head, the only aircraft in EA that would fit that description are the Mig-19 and the C-101 (and that one is mostly due to multicrew). The Mig-21 is complete, the Viggen is near feature complete and the items missing or requiring a rework would also apply if we had some AJ variant.

On the other hand, the 4th gen jets are so different from their earlier variants (e.g a Block 15 Viper or something) that you would require much more work to start with an early version and update it to a modern one, not less.
