Ice Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Has this ever happened to you? You in an engagement or being fired apon by SAMS and you dive when all of a sudden you see the water coming at you and you have no chance of pulling up...splash Is it possible to have a better way of seeing the water surface at higher altitudes? It must be in real life that the visual cue is higher, right now you only see the water "waves" reflection at such a close range it becomes dangerous.
IkabalahI Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 No need for that since every plane has attitude indicator (two of them - HUD + usually analog instrument, which is again usually incorporated with radar attitude indicator) 1
Ice Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 No need for that since every plane has attitude indicator (two of them - HUD + usually analog instrument, which is again usually incorporated with radar attitude indicator) Well Duh I guess someone had to come back with such a predictable response Looking at your altitude in the heat of battle is not as easy as looking at the ground or water
169th_Cobra Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 No need for that since every plane has attitude indicator um ... your attitude indicator only tells you that you are heading for the water .. not how far away from it you are. hehe :P

Drakkhen Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 In EECH, I noticed they vertex-colored the sea grid to make the surface blue show some hue variations making it less uniform at higher altitudes, Maybe could it be enough of a clue for distance. It's not your fault.. it's another ground moving earthquake... Thanks, Brett

crazyleggs Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Same thing happened to me the other night while diving away from incoming SU-27s. The problem is that the water texture used in the game is too calm. i.e. there's no way to gauge your height, no relief when looking directly at it. Float plane flyers use the horizon ahead and to either side to gauge height during an approach in calm waters. A texture with whitecaps would help as they would grow in size as you descend. I've flown many hours over the ocean and it's always easier to judge altitude in stormy conditions vice calm conditions.

I was going to post something similar my self. I gave in a while ago and I’m now using a water mod that gives me great visibility of the surface of the water, making it very easy to judge my height. My pc isn’t fast enough too run Med water and 2X AA but with the water turned down to low I can run 2XAA and advanced haze so I guess it works out ok for me. With the water set to medium I can usually only judge my distance from the surface of the sea by looking at the “spotlight effect” the sun makes with its reflection but with it turned down to low and using the right third party texture I can eliminate the problem which gives me a more realistic reference to judge my height above the water. ALDEGA Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Fly at night ... In the dark you have to have situational awareness and use your instruments to the fullest. Much more challenging than with ideal light conditions. :)
