Hoirtel Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 I wonder if anyone can help guide me with some viacom and SRS questions. I'm a VR user and love Viacom so don't want to stop using it if I can avoid it. I have read the manuals and guidance for both however I am struggling to understand best settings, or what others find works best. I am just testing in my main go-to airframe F18 until I feel confident with it. I don't want others to hear me talking to AI on MP servers so I have used the dynamic switching option however I think what ever I do it seems to just go straight to SRS. I hear the TX node noise also the SRS transmit noise. For example when I am on the ground and tune the airfield comms I can't then ask for ground crew as it wants to transmit this across SRS. Even if I do that anyway I hear the recognition beep and then nothing comes up? I am confused about what is the most appropriate dynamic switch options, Auto switch/ignore select/hold AI transmission. I have all three on these on as seems to be indicated in the manual is this best practice. Any help/advice welcome.
sthompson Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 I tried dynamic switching and didn't like it because the use of the "Switch" command when I want to talk on SRS seemed awkward. For me the solution is to turn off dynamic switching and then set up SRS as follows. First, I use the same buttons for SRS radio selection and VAICOM TX nodes. Then turn off the SRS feature where radio select also works as PTT. Instead define a new button for SRS PTT. That way you can use one of the SRS/VAICOM buttons to talk to the AI or select an SRS radio. But to actually broadcast on SRS you then need to push its separate PTT button. SRS does not hear the VAICOM commands or vice versa with this setup, and you only need one additional button. 1 I'm Softball on Multiplayer. Select the radio with the vaicom radio keys, and a new ptt button for srs for whatever radio is selected. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Hoirtel Posted June 7, 2021 Author Posted June 7, 2021 Thanks to everyone's help, I now have separate bindings which seems to be working well and allowing me full control of separate SRS and viacom use. I am having a new problem is that during multiplayer sessions viacom starts recognising words that are not being spoken. I just here the beep and it is registering usually "Haifa" (A place on the syria map). This happens on any map and not always straight away sometime quickly, sometimes not. It doesn't say that any TX node is being pressed, just recognising this word from nowhere? Also occasionally same thing with "Ship" but mostly "haifa". Anyone know what is happening here? Thanks in advance.

No not using the tomcat. I don't actually own it. Ok thanks for the pointer. I'll have a look and see if I can turn that off somewhere.
