deathbysybian Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 If you freeze the ground radar in the F18 and then use the TCD to slew a new target, the actual target it designates is nowhere near what you selected in the A2G radar screen. Are you supposed to be able to keep the radar screen frozen to select targets? The fact that you can update the target crosshairs while the radar is frozen suggests to me it's supposed to work. You can see this if you have the A2G radar on one screen and the tpod on another. Freeze the radar while an airport is visible on the radar. Pick anywhere as a new target and look where the tpod points.
Frederf Posted June 15, 2021 Posted June 15, 2021 I noticed this when using the EXP123 modes which have slow updates. The "freeze frames" are purely visual and the geographic transformation is still happening smoothly behind the scenes. The result is your designation doesn't correlate to the frozen radar image depending on your timing relative to the frames. The real airplane when designating relative to a static image applies the designation correlated to the image slice that you see at the time. So yes, popping up getting a radar picture frozen and then doing your designation on the saved picture is how it should work. 1
