Hi,

Does anyone have seen a difference with the new patch for handtracking ? Changelog is refering to update version of ultraleap, but I did not see any impact in the game till now.

3 questions:

-I'm using only the VR tab in DCS because it is much more precise than via the special tab (for me, with Pimax crystal / Ultraleap 1 / SIR170 / Gemini 5.20). Same for you ?

-Under VR tab & Handtracking / pimax crystal (with Pimax XR control center Handtracking checked), impossible to use the fantastic Openkneebaord tool. Any idea ?

-May be have something wrong, but when moving my head, my both virtual hands also move, causing more than often painful actions (landing gear level down or hook ...), always at the bad moment of course !!

Thanks for your reply & have a good fly !

To question one: yes, the same here. leap activated via the VR tab
To question two: sorry, I dont use Openkneeboard

To question three: I had the same problem a few updates ago. But that was fixed.
I hope the problem is not the same again. I will check it tomorrow

Thanks A.F.

Q3: head and hands are moving alongside, I will try again but ... Maybe an option somewhere to be checked / unchecked ? I've tried few possibilities in the tab, without success so far

I have activated Leap via the VR tab.
They don't move for me (just a little, nothing compared to before) when I move my head.
Nothing has changed compared to the last version.

I know that doesn't help you...

Hi A.F !

Thanks a lot for your feedback. It helps, because it confirms that is possible. Maybe under VR Tab ?

null I post my VR tab. Something wrong ? different ? Which headset do you have ?

How do you use handtracking ? After several hours and many tries, with virtual hands moving quite alot when moving my head, I'm only activating my virtual hands when requested for action, and press specific keys just after to hide again. Using also 3 differents "snapview when flying the F-16 (ramp start, cruise, fifght).

Thanks for your advice again

Hi Fabio,

Thanks for sharing. So, no other option to reduce hand / head movement.....

Question: are you using only the VR default view ? Did you modify the config\view\ Snapview.lua file ? Or do you create several snapviews for your F16 as to catch all buttons and switches (especially for the backside, at rampstart) ?

Really hard time on my side to find the good "seat position" to be able to reach all switches ...

Thanks in advance

To better manage hand movements I use the 3 sliders as shown in the picture.

I did not make any changes to the LUA files (at least for this purpose).

I recall that I use a totally unobstructed workstation.

Clear. Thanks. And you manage all switches and buttons ?

I will give a new fresh try tonight, with a complete new unobstructed workstation.

@BIGNEWY would it be possible to add a feature request?

Could an option be added that highlights the control activation triggers?

This would give a two fold benefit: -

1) As a training aid to build muscle memory whilst learning a new module.

2) Troubleshooting implementation in new modules or identifying issues with existing control actuation.

I reckon this would benefit all, developers because it will simplify the development/bug hunting and users because it will minimise the frustrations of trying to randomly hit a switch in just the right way to trigger it.

Upshot is that it would make leap motion (and hand tracking in general) more accessible and ergonomic as a system and get more people on board with it🙂

Hi, can you explain a little more, I maybe miss understanding.

do you want the buttons being pressed to be highlighted?

So there is a target on each control (a little yellow wireframe or similar) outlining the bounding box of the activation area.  Something to aim for if you like 🙂

Excuse the terrible pdf annotations scrawled all over chucks guide for the mi24 but something a bit like this: -

image.png

The data for the bounding box will already be there (assuming it uses a bounding box) or at least a single trigger point so it should be a case of applying a highlight to said data (obviously easier said than done).  On push buttons wouldn't be so helpful but for toggle switches and rotaries where there is a described arc of motion of the switch it will show where you have to aim for in each position if that makes sense?

edit: Helpful particularly on rotary toggles where the trigger point is not known, it's almost impossible to guarantee which direction the rotary is going to go.  I can touch a rotary from it's initial position and it will move clockwise pretty reliably, but there's not indication of where you should touch it to go anticlockwise.  Possibly even a direction of motion arrow would be awesome if it could be added?

Another idea for improvement:
would it be possible to provide the setting “hand forward or backward” separately for the right and left hand?
for some reason my right hand is further forward than my left hand when I press the ICP of the F 16

Hello,
unfortunately I had to reinstall DCS. And of course I did the update straight away.
I use Leap Motion and everything worked fine before the reinstallation.
But now my hands are no longer displayed in the game.
When I activate Leap Motion in the special menu, my hands are displayed, but they disappear as soon as I sit in the aircraft. This was already the case before.
That's why I always activated Leap Motion via the VR tap. Then everything worked fine and the hands were usable.
But now the hands are no longer activated when I activate Leap Motion in the VR menu under ‘Use hand controller’.

Does anyone also have this problem and can perhaps help me?

Edit:

ok, it's done! After a restart of DCS everything is as before! Hands are displayed 🙂

No, unfortunately not!
I rejoiced too soon...

My hands were visible, but I couldn't operate any buttons. I then saw that Leap Motion was switched off again in the VR tap, ‘Hand interaction only when...’ had a tick next to it. That's why the hands were visible.

So my problem still exists... If anyone knows a solution...

My Leap Motion can no longer be activated via the VR tap, only via the special tap.
However, the special tap is not suitable for this. In the past, I had very good results with activation via the VR tap.
Unfortunately, I had to reinstall DCS and now activation via the VR tap no longer works.
Does anyone have any idea where I should look for the solution? Does ED perhaps know a solution?
I would be very grateful! I miss my hands 🙂

The Leap is a great feature.

But it often happens that when you have your hands on the real throttle you unintentionally interact with the controls on the left side console.

Fortunately, ED has set up controls to hide/show hands. Unfortunately, however, you have to provide these commands on your (already crowded) Hotas.

It would be very convenient to provide gestures to quickly show or hide hands.

For example, a quick double-closing of the fist could be expected to make them concealed while a quick full opening of the hand (such as showing the number 5) would make them appear.

I hope this is a suggestion that will be taken into consideration, or that there is a way to be able to create a macro with Gemini or another sw that allows you to create a shortcut to the command set on the keyboard.

Whilst I was making my electromagnet cyclic trimmer for my warthog, I had the forethought to add a 4 tactswitch button box to my warthog grip.  With a couple of modifiers I have a bunch of ancillary controls available, two of which are show/hide hands 🙂

It might be worth pinging ultraleap an email to see if they know of any software that will allow you to bind guestures to a keystroke.

I can now use my hands again. I clicked around a bit in the OpenXRtoolkit, and at some point I was able to operate switches again.
However, I did not activate leap via the VR menu, but set VR from false to true in the option.lua.

The funny thing is that when I go to the VR menu in the game, my hands disappear immediately and only reappear after a DCS restart. Strange...
