Mr_sukebe Posted June 23, 2021 Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) Hoping that this has already been reported, as I seem to vaguely remember it being mentioned. When I first open DCS and load a mission, runs fine. If I end that first mission, then open a new one (e.g. simply re-opening the same mission again), I get a loss of frame rate of over 50%. The mitigating action is to not just exit the mission, but exit the game, then go back into mission, which avoids the issue. However, it's a bit of a pain. My assumption is that there should be a piece of logic in place to "flush" the resource usage from a previous mission before starting a new one, and that it's simply not working as it should. Happens to me in both single and multiplayer, and also going from say a single player mission, then into a multiplayer mission. Mr_sukebe Posted June 23, 2021 Author Posted June 23, 2021 Update. Had my frame rate go to poop whilst in a multiplayer this evening. Took a scan in MSI Afterburner. CPU was under 60% loading. GPU had jumped from 80-90% to a solid 100%, and also with a LOT of bus usage. I was flying the Hind and had just used the Shturm missiles. I wonder if that had resulted in a big increase in VRAM use? 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
Gizzy Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Happens to me in VR only though.... when respawning from one aircraft to another - from 50FPS to 10FPS.... G2 on high settings GTX2080ti.... what works for me is to alt tab to SteamVR and 'reset seated position' that normally cures it. Seems somewhere DCS ? Windies is not releasing memory.
5ephir0th Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 I suffer that too, sometimes the workaround that @Gizzy said works, sometimes not, it looks that many of the endemic performance problems of DCS are due a (very) poor VRAM management. It uses too much, it doesn’t free the non use correctly, etc 1 NZXT H9 Flow Black | Intel Core i5 13600KF OCed P5.6 E4.4 | Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 32GB C30 OCed 6600 C32 | nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition | Western Digital SN770 2TB | Gigabyte GP-UD1000GM PG5 ATX 3.0 1000W | SteelSeries Apex 7 | Razer Viper Mini | SteelSeries Artics Nova 7 | LG OLED42C2 | Xiaomi P1 55" Virpil T-50 CM2 Base + Thrustmaster Warthog Stick | WinWing Orion 2 F16EX Viper Throttle | WinWing ICP | 3 x Thrustmaster MFD | Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals | Oculus Quest 2 DCS World | Persian Gulf | Syria | Flaming Cliff 3 | P-51D Mustang | Spitfire LF Mk.
