hitman Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I like Sochi. I like Sochi better in FSX and in X plane 9 than in LOMAC, though. It actually looks populated, and I think that the runways arent correct or out of date, because theres more than just 2 active runways at Sochi.
Vekkinho Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 All bases are cool because they look exactly like their real originals.:):joystick: Well not exactly! Just check Maykop in LOFC and Maykop IRL! Completely different layout, same thing goes to Novorossiysk! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Yeah, and some air bases in the sim arent there IRL. Simferopol is one of them.
X-man Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Yeah, and some air bases in the sim arent there IRL. Simferopol is one of them. AFAIK, Simferopol has it's own airport  64th Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 135.181.115.54
hitman Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I said Khersones, not Simferopol! Dont screw me up, man...well AFAIK its decomissioned and no longer has a runway or whatever. Been a while since I looked for it on an atlas.

SwingKid Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I said Khersones! :music_whistling: See? The irony is I think you meant Gelendzhik. :) Now, what WOULD be cool is to fly Flaming Cliffs' Georgian Su-25 out of Black Shark's Kopitnari... Alas. 1

Alas. Dont know where Gelendzhik is, but Khersones is the air base I was referring about. Its one of few runways not modelled in either FSX or X Plane 9 in the Black Sea region that I know of. If it is modelled, they are in the wrong places.
S77th-konkussion Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Using google earth for what that's worth- I don't even see Novo at all- there's something there that kind of looks like it MAY have been a runway at one time.. Gelen is lookin miiii-ghty barren but someone left a chopper and a bus there (finders keepers on the chopper) LoMac's Maykop is... not even close to what is showing there. wow. D'oh! The irony is - I meant Novorossiysk. Looks like a recent imagery update there, IIRC not long ago the former runway was more visible. I think the three buildings at the east end are new.

I can find all airfields (in LOFC) in google earth except for Novo. But a while ago, you could see the closed runway as well. This was a cool idea, thank you. I looked at Krasnodar (one of my favorites) and was able to see lots of Su-25s, MiG-29s, and what looked like MiG-27s. Cool stuff!
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Novo - odd they built over it, you would've thought a large city like that would have kept it as a civilian airport. Back on topic - favorite airports: Crimea. All a bit dull really, but if I had to pick one it would be Dzhankoy runway 05 at night as you have nice city lights either side. Caucasus. Sochi-Adler, landing VFR on the (unnumbered) second runway from the mountain side. Krasnodar Central landing at night on runway 27 coming over the lake and then the city lights of Kalinino. Gaudata landing on runway 33 at night (or a foggy day) and suddenly seeing the lighthouse. ...and of course Novo or Gelendzhik at night / bad weather on ILS with the wind set so it swaps the landing direction to bring you in from the land side - LOL.
