F18 AIM-120C SIM mode doesn't appear to work.

I don't have any documentation on it, so just guessing here... but boxing SIM and then selecting AIM-120C, locking a target and depressing the trigger doesn't do anything.

I would have expected it to launch a "simulated" shot giving you a live ACT timer, then TTG on the HUD as well as the symbology on RDR ATTK & AZ/EL screens.

Would be really nice to do practice BVR fights, which right now aren't really possible unless you want to use live weapons against each other and some groups don't want to do that kind of thing.

There's a video online showing a simulated FOX-3 shot (It's a super hornet).

I'm not sure if it can even register hits or how it can register hits.

It won't add a lot to the game in my opinion. People who want to simulate BVR shots probably use MOOSE (FOX), or other scripts.

I don't think a feature shouldn't be added just because a script can kind-of perform a similar function.

Mil-Sim groups who don't kill friendlies and do practice BFM/BVR would benefit from this.

@BIGNEWYThe video BarTzi posted shows an example of it working which is how I expected, it displays all symbology from a missile launch like normal but without the actual missile launch of course.

ACT # / TTG # is shown on the HUD in the video

I'm not against adding it. All I did was to mention it serves no purpose, unless you have a way of telling if the missile hit or missed. The way it's done in DCS is with live weapons and scripts, which I'm sure those milsim groups are already using.
It will make the module more complete, but it serves no real purpose other than that.

Please note that the video is a hud recording of a super honet. I don't think ED will be using it as a source.

It is a simulation within a simulation. However, it would be useful to have it properly simulated nevertheless (the number of 'live' missiles is limited in-game too after all)

IRL they used AIC to "Kill Remove" jets if they are determined to have been within valid parameters for a hit.

The HUD symbology would mainly help for knowing when to call pitbull/timeout/cheapshot/etc. And for when to execute your out, otherwise you're just guessing.

I'll look into that script since apparently a non functional SIM mode is "correct as is" sadly I don't have classified documents so it would be up to ED to verify this. There's absolutely no way it's correct as is for a SIM mode to do nothing except safe the trigger lol.
