Hi there,

I've just ordered the Pimax 8k x headset. I assume it will be with me in two weeks or so.

Anyway, I'm used to the Reverb G2, but have never used Pimax. My impression of the headset is that there's a lot of tweaking involved, and I was wondering if any other 8k x user would be willing to guide me in setting it up/optimising it? Would be willing to send a few £ for a coffee or two for the time.

Of course, it's still a few weeks away, but it would be great to have a guy to chat to walk through it.

I'll be uninstalling and reinstalling DCS beforehand, the idea being to make it as clean as possible prior to the Pimax headset.

If anyone has any immediate advice, I would really appreciate any notes you may have/guides.

My specs:

AMD 5900X

ASUS PRIME X570 PRO

32GB (4 X 😎 3733Mhz Trident Z Neo Samsung B Die RAM

MSI RTX 3090 SUPRIM X

Samsung 970 Evo Pro 500gb

Sabrent 2TB Rocket Q4

Cheers,

Peter

I'm running pretty much the exact setup with a G2 and PIMAX. I can help you out once you get your Pimax in. I had one of the reps from Pimax walk me through setup.

I would recommend a Vive Lighthouse or two for optimum DOF tracking.

I would also recommend one of the HMD counterweights. I run them both on my G2 and Pimax 8kx and they work great.

There is a DCS Pimax thread out:

You might want to read through the last 8 or 10 pages. Maybe check my posts for CPU frame time that might bottleneck your rig. I have a comparable system and multiplayer kills CPU performance. Long story short:

If you are up for pure performance, the lowest chance of stutters: Everything to low, except shadows and textures. And try 60 Hz mode.

Hey there,

Thanks for this, I'll be sure to have a look through.

Cheers, appreciate that you're willing to help. I suspect I'm most likely two weeks away from receiving it(I ordered last weekend and am in UK), but maybe I'll be a bit luckier.

Fortunately I ordered base stations with the headset, so fingers crossed they should come with.

I'll look into the counterweights
