Mr_Blastman Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 What I want to do is wipe 4 - 6 targets in one pass using laser guided FFARs, and the only way that makes sense to do this is to have these targets pre-designated as TGT waypoints that the targeting pod can slew to. Great. However, in practice, I can't find a way to set a TGT waypoint with the TGP. I think this can only be done with the DMT. However, when I have DMT on left MFD and TGP on right MFD, despite the TGP saying it is slaved to SOI, it doesn't track the DMT movement, and the TGT waypoints don't get assigned when I hold down the WPT increment button on my HOTAS. At best I might be able to assign two TGT waypoints. There has to be a way to do more, and efficiently, right? I'm beginning to feel that these laser guided FFARs are best for use against moving targets, rather than stationary ones, but it sure would be neat to pre-designate many targets from 20 - 30 miles out, dive and come in at treetop level only to pop up at about 7 - 10 nautical miles so I can rain laser guided fire down on an area before exiting the area nap of the Earth.

You designate a target (T0) with the TGP, then use TOO to assign it to an available target point i.e. T01, then repeat (IIRC a max of 10 target points). See TEACypher's video for more detail on using TOO 7 hours ago, Mr_Blastman said: What I want to do is wipe 4 - 6 targets in one pass using laser guided FFARs APKWS isn't really designed for that, they are relatively short ranged and have to be supported until impact. However it is possible in DCS using active pause from 4-5 NM (perhaps you can do better). • Create target points T01-T05 using TGP Designations and TOO. • Select T01, check TGP is slaved to designation. • Use WINC to step to the next target point T02, check TGP moves with it, repeat for other target points. • Select APKWS (A20) • Step to T01 using WINC, etc • Lase with TGP • Fire 1st APKWS • after ~5 sec fire 2nd APKWS, repeat for the others with 5 second intervals • Watch the TGP, when the 1st APKWS hits - use WINC to step to the next target T02, repeat WINC for the others as each target is hit. 7 hours ago, Mr_Blastman said: it sure would be neat to pre-designate many targets from 20 - 30 miles out, dive and come in at treetop level only to pop up at about 7 - 10 nautical miles so I can rain laser guided fire down on an area before exiting the area nap of the Earth. AFAIK it's not really practical IRL, as you'll only get precise TGP coordinates from under 10-15 NM and the rockets have a max range of ~11 km (7 NM) when fired from an aircraft (wiki). Attached is a short track - unfortunately it's not very efficient as it's a while since I've flown the Harrier. Mr_Blastman Posted July 29, 2021 Author Posted July 29, 2021 Ah this is very interesting, thank you. I did not realize the TOO button had this functionality. Great stuff.
