I searched and found a cool way to simulate the images from Baghdad during the air wars with AAA units blind firing. However, when I try it I am finding some units just won't fire. Does anyone have a break down on what units might not use the fire at point command or parameters for each unit? I'm fairly certain I am well within firing ranges but maybe not. Also, has anyone gotten a manpad or a TEL to launch in the same way, completely dumb?

Which units do not fire exactly?

You don't have to worry about max firing ranges, as you won't be able to exceed the max range anyways. (try setting 1000000 for radius, you'll see the value pops back to the units max range).

 

In DCS (and maybe irl?) both TEL's and MANPADS need a target to track/lock before they fire.

 

You could try @cfrag's suggestion, but from personal experience I can tell you this won't really get you a satisfied result.

 

 I just experimented a bit with an infantry RPG unit, and although the do fire in the air (to some small extend), this obviously won't give you the smoke plume you're probably looking for. Only a small "flak like" puff. (so you might better just use a flak cannon for that)

Maybe the units did fire, and simply ran out of ammo? DCS does model ammunition depletion and reload time, so the AA won't fire all the time, and you must make sure that a source to replenish ammo is in range for the AA to re-stock.

I thought about the UAV thing but then it's orbiting and visible - the only unit firing was the K60 but then again the bofors always worked before and I've had ZU23's work. But  I never can figure out when they dont why.

So I set up a trigger zone and have it set to cause a Group Resume command... After I have it do a Group Stop at mission start. It's pretty but they aren't shooting as instructed, they shoot the whole mission. I tried the push command but it doesn't show the units in question.
