Paramedic10 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Hey there, Semi-veteran DCS player here. Decided to get DCS up and running on my gaming laptop, and I have been unsuccessful it getting it working. The system is a ROG laptop, 8th gen i7, GTX 1070, 16gb ram, NVME SSD. Most recent nvidia drivers. Most recent windows 10 version. Clean install of DCS. No mods. Loads DCS fine, but in windowed mode, and only occupies 1/2 the screen. Cannot click the maximize button, it is greyed out. So, I adjusted the resolution in the settings to match my desktop res of 1920x1080, ticked the "Full Screen" box, and clicked OK. The game rebooted, same issue. I tried using Alt + Tab. The game goes into full screen, but it looks like its "zoomed in". The settings menus take up the whole screen, and when you go to load a flight, the usual images I'm used to seeing are "clipped" at the edges as if it is zoomed in like 130%. Never seen this behavior before. I saw that "VR Mode" was checked. I unticked this, rebooted, still no go. Deleted options.lua, made sure the settings were correct again, no go. All the while, when I load an instant action mission, the game loads fine, but the screen is all black. I can see the white mission text at the top, and when I hit F2 to go outside, I can see the aircraft information at the bottom of the screen, and all the sounds work. However, GPU is at 0% utilization. The F10 map DOES work. So the main issues are: Full screen behavior is odd. With Alt+Enter, it seems zoomed in and not to scale even after double checking settings. I am fairly computer savvy so nothing seems wrong with the settings. And, when loading into a flight or game, all black screen except for the white mission text and F10 map. Audio works. Not sure what is going on. Tried on the stable and OB release.
Flappie Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Hi. It seems DCS has a hard time determining the true monitor resolution. Please try the "Reset settings" feature in Nvidia settings. ---

Please try the "Reset settings" feature in Nvidia settings. Unfortunately, this did not solve it. I reset everything, installed the newest nvidia drivers today as a clean install... Still starting in windowed mode. I left it as is and started a mission... Same thing. Audio works, F10 map works, escape menu works, all black screen when viewing the aircraft. No GPU utilization. I checked the resolution in nvidia control panel and it is set to 1920x1080 which says "native" next to it. Confirmed through microsoft settings. 144 hz refresh rate set as it always has been. Other ideas?
Flappie Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 This is a really weird issue. Please attach your dcs.log file (Saved Games/DCS.../Logs/dcs.log - may appear as "DCS"). ---

I put "-windowed" in the steam launch parameters, and it seems to have forced full screen. No more aspect issues, loads fine, runs great.
Flappie Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Wow, I would never have guessed. Thanks for your precious feedback! 1 ---
