Manute Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Hi, i´m new to the forum, but i´ve been reading you a lot last months, and following the BS development. I read here that it´s possible to plug additional LCD´s to display the schkval or abris at different screens, and I checked at leftside limited web that there is a touch buddy version for pocket pc (or something like that). Both things merged in my mind and I think it would be nice for people who have a pocket pc to plug it and have the schkval or the abris there. Don´t know if it´s possible right now or if it´s easy to do, i´d like to know your opinion about this. For me it would be a nice touch to have that in my pda, i think i´m not alone. Thanks in advance to the community!
nemises Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 It's hard to say at this point, because of lack of good info on the subject.. 1) you can use touchbuddy on a pocketPC .. so if someone writes an output for the ABRIS or shkval you could at least control it from the pocket PC via LUA (allthough it wouldn't output the graphical moving displays..just an interface to the selectable controls) 2) The multi monitor support "seems" to only support a stretched desktop mode , which implies that all display devices need to run the same resolution. A pocket PC will not be able to support a usable desktop resolution, and so even if it is possible to use it as a desktop display device, you couldnt use it in stretched desktop mode. This needs to be confirmed though, as we havent had any clear information to do with the way the Display+Shkval or Display+ABRIS monitor settings / output modes work in BS. 3) Urze has a good (read 6 display) setup with different resolutions, though I think he's useing an output emulator to fool windows and split one signal into multiple displays. He can't discuss the setup on here, however, I think there are some details on his setup either on his site (google "leftside urze") or perhaps on lockon files?. This setup, as far as I know, does NOT include dedicated Shkval or Abris monitors though. It'd be cool if someone could let us know how the Display+Shkval and Display+ABRIS modes actually work for certain though. I doubt whether the app has been coded to recognise 2 seperate outputs , more like it will work by doing a split-screen render using half the "screen" to render the ABRIS or Shkval, and half the screen to render the cockpit. 1
urze Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) Hi ! I think it's the best to drop now some lines before I get PM's and emails that I can't answer at the moment. I will not (and can't->NDA) answer any question about DCS-Black Shark until it is released. So please don't even try to ask me about DCS and multihead support -although I showed it with a early Beta. But I can say you that there are plenty of posibilities but also some restrictions. So please hold on before you buy plenty of expensive hardware! I will give you a whole review when you have the final release. Kind regards, Urze Please read also this threads: Multimonitor support FAQ TouchBuddy and PPC EDIT: I'm able to display Farcry(!) on my PocketPC in a Ingame res of 1024x768 scaled down to the PPCres 320x240 in acceptable frame rates and control the crosshair with the touchscreen. burnzoire Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I'd love to turn my iPhone into an Arbis or ICP :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Manute Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Well, may be it´s a bit early since BS´s not been released worldwide. I read about the Display+Shkval and Display+Abris options, but it seems we don´t know how exactly they work. I don´t think a split screen render will work, mostly for those of us using track ir. Controlling abris or schkval with touch buddy and ppc is better than nothing, but I think we need the 2 separate output option, let´s see when BS is finally full released how this works. BTW, checked urze´s link to Sidewindow and looks cool, need to try this with mine. Maybe the qvga resolution is not great, but considering the real shkval is a crt monitor, i believe it has more or less the same resolution, so it´d display nice on a pocket pc imho. Good point with the iphone 3g, since it has better resolution. I don´t know how the iphone connects to the pc, but if it has an option to synchronize with it, it should work too. Hope all of this is possible when we all have the sim in our hands finally!! Oh, and a question just arised...URZE, when trying farcry, is the performance downgraded when using the pocket pc,or is it the same?
