percydanvers Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Is there a good technique for landing here? I am very often landing on the concrete strip and then rolling over in the grass, but if I slam on the breaks to stop before the grass I tip over forwards. Obviously more of a problem in the 109 than most planes but my landings with other warbirds there are pretty rough as well. I'm landing at the specified landing speeds for the aircraft in question (>180kph for 109, >220kph for D9)
DD_Fenrir Posted August 17, 2021 Posted August 17, 2021 (edited) The asphalt areas are for starting your take-off run from or making your initial touchdown whilst landing. You are supposed to run on to the grass to complete your take-off roll or landing roll-out. It's not unique; Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory used a similar feature for when they test flew production Lancasters; the concrete supports the static weight of aircraft for run-up and mag tests and the initial portion of the run, but once rolling the grass was perfectly able to support the Lanc and provided no drama.
