The Spitfire always want to roll left or right, whatever rudder trim or small roll adjustments I do with my stick.

I tried with different curves, but impossible to keep it slightly stable in roll, and of course, it makes any flight a nightmare.

On the other hand, in pitch, I can trim it relatively easily.

For your information, I use a Warthog stick with 15 cm extension and I already checked that there was no other assignment to roll axis than my stick.

First check your bindings any duplicated assigns will make trouble.

Second if first is checked and ok, Rudder trim is very important in those planes  if plane rolls right or left you need to adjust trim or use rudder pedals to reduce slip this is the reason why you are rolling.

At low speed and high power this tendency will be much stronger so check if your speed is ok, flying at speed around 120mph will not be stable as speed 250mph

Bind elevator and rudder trim to easily accessible buttons , you will use the a lot.

Thanks @grafspee

No duplicate bindings. That was the 1st thing I checked.

I used the rudder trim (assigned to my trim hat, since no roll trim on Spitfire) to prevent the right roll and I always correct the slip with my rudder.

It stays stable for some time, but then, as soon as I need to turn, it gets very unstable. I don't know if I get into PIO when trying to correct the attitude, but it becomes impossible to trim it back to "somewhat stable".

I noticed too that it's even worse at low speed and I'm wondering if the RPM settings can have an impact on the stability.

If you have problem with uncommanded roll in turn, i would bet that you just pull too hard and you are stalling, spitfire is very unstable in pitch axis so even small input induce a lot of G.

If you have stick with no extension you need to have brain surgeon precision.

today, I applied your advice and it was a joy to fly the 1st mission of the Epsom campaign. The Spitfire was actually very stable.

This is what I did:

- make sure it was well trimmed in pitch

- reduce the Y saturation of the pitch and roll axes and add some curve

- always ensure with the rudders that there was no or very little sideslip

Good work. I found this through trial and error, and you're right - she is actually very stable and can even be 'hands off' briefly. I have come to this forum often and solved many of my woes! Most lately with the Mossie...

May I ask what curves and saturation alterations you’ve made?

I have the warthog too and have been flying the spitfire without touching any of that stuff as I don’t know what to do with it. Also my rudder pedals seem very sensitive.

thanks
