To successfully join and fly multiplayer, how much bandwidth is required for the client computer?

To successfully operate a dedicated server, how much bandwidth is needed per player?

I'd appreciate anybody who could shed a little light on this for me.

Thanks!

I think it's the wrong  forum section......

.....btw.....for both question the answers is the same, it depends from the mission that you actually want to run on your server (as client the mission hosted by the server)

In terms of numbers, it can start from 50KB/sec for each connected, up to 250kb/sec for each clients, depending on the active units on the mission, what AI and players are doing etc.

Another behavior that I've notice operating 24/7 servers, is that is not really that "linear" growing demands on bandwidth for clients counts.
It's not exponential, but for sure is not linear, so if you plan to open a server to a large numbers of players, you can really have to take a look at the available bandwidth, and please don't operate server on wifi or shitty connection that can loose packet, your community will appreciate 😄

Thanks Maverick87Shaka!

I didn't know or have any idea at all. I don't have a ton of bandwidth to start with, but I wanted to have an idea. I detest WIFI, and everything of consequence within my network is at least a 1Gbps standard ethernet. (I think we have some tablets/kindles that connect with wireless, but honestly, it's just the wife and me now, so no real competition for bandwidth internally.) I was thinking more about my internet connection, and what it will support. It surely won't support 10 users.

So if I read you right, the more complex the mission with AI units etc, the more it gobbles up my bandwidth. That's helpful. I don't have a "community" as such. I've logged into one server, one time, I think, just to get an idea what it was like. The main reason I'm running a server at all is so I can host the  mission off my main machine and let my primary machine do all the other chores it ordinarily does while I  play. I was wondering what it would take to host some small-time missions and such. You've given me a good starting point.

Again, thanks!
