NeuralBlankes Posted September 29, 2021 Posted September 29, 2021 I have a Quest 2 that I have used, in the past with DCS (thus confirming it *can* work). Currently I run a GTX 1070ti (not modified) with a 4k monitor at 3440 x 1440. Judging by the reaction of the cooling for the computer, playing games at full graphics is fine, but does seem to be pushing the limits on the card. Is it feasible to use the Quest 2 for DCS with this current setup without pushing the card to the breaking point? Do VR headsets result in the video cards having more workload? If so, are there ways to limit this, or do I just need to turn the graphics down a bit?
bomber Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 Well, I,ve been running a 2080super with a rift s, my mate runs a quest 2 off a amd 6800xt. These cards give quite good performance in vr( of course it all depends on dcs settings!! ). And I understand that the quest2 has been getting better and better with upgrades to software. HOWEVER. I have made a jump to a 3080 and the performance of these cards are something else, but of course , price and shortage come to mind. i have wasted money in the past so by experience, a 3080, 3080ti or amd equivalent would rock in vr. Bear in mind that processor is important also to handle the “ workings” of the sim and at least 32 gb ram. It is an expensive hobby but often I’ve bought “ lesser components” and regretted it the following year! I gulped when I bought my 3080ti but don’t regret it for a mo. most cards will run at 100 % so no worries there about “ breaking point” , it’s just you’ll have to turn all the settings down with your card and have a reduced experience or stuttering. It’s all about quality v performance. Syria at 15 FPS is not fun! Best of luck [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] This must be reality, no sim can have this many bugs! 13700kf, 4090, 64gb. HP g2.
5ephir0th Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 VR is, usually, WAY more demanding than 2D but it depends on how demanding are you about eye candy. I had, before 3080ti, an 1080ti overclock and, for what i want, is on the edge but you have all you need, as simple as give it a try NZXT H9 Flow Black | Intel Core i5 13600KF OCed P5.6 E4.4 | Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 32GB C30 OCed 6600 C32 | nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition | Western Digital SN770 2TB | Gigabyte GP-UD1000GM PG5 ATX 3.0 1000W | SteelSeries Apex 7 | Razer Viper Mini | SteelSeries Artics Nova 7 | LG OLED42C2 | Xiaomi P1 55" Virpil T-50 CM2 Base + Thrustmaster Warthog Stick | WinWing Orion 2 F16EX Viper Throttle | WinWing ICP | 3 x Thrustmaster MFD | Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals | Oculus Quest 2 DCS World | Persian Gulf | Syria | Flaming Cliff 3 | P-51D Mustang | Spitfire LF Mk. Hoirtel Posted September 30, 2021 Posted September 30, 2021 For a 10 series card look to using a rift S, quest 2 will probably run at base resolution but things will be blurry. I run Q2 on 3090 at full resolution, 80hrz and x2 MSAA. No headroom for supersampling. This is fine most of the time, some stutters over towns on channel map, syria. Marianas goes pretty bad. VR always wants more, older cards are better with older headsets as smoothness is the key. You do need a beefy processor too.
NeuralBlankes Posted September 30, 2021 Author Posted September 30, 2021 Thanks for the replies. I will have to see what I can do with the settings and figure out what the performance vs. appearance will end up being.
