Seems I have been able to slow this beast down for landing ok...however, I do find that taxi on the runway, off ramps etc to be a little on the fast side.  I throttle my engine right back to as far as it will allow which is about 15"....Prop RPM in the green say middway...I hit brakes, nose drops, plane comes back with a thud...OK, thats working...yet, we seem to be hurtling about the place....any pointers?  Oh, yeah, thats on the Caucasus map...

If you taxing at RPM with in green range that you doing this wrong.

If you stay still apply throttle to about 1200-1300 rpm if on hard surface, on grass or soil you may need a bit more to start moving, just add throttle very slowly when you noticed that you started moving back throttle a bit. On tarmac or concrete taxi path you will need about 1000rpm for nice taxing speed, if turning you may need to compensate additional drag with small throttle touch.

In cockpit controls levers

RPM lever always at max, if on the ground this lever must be full forward. There is not a single point when this lever is in other position on the ground.

So on the ground while taxing rpm are controlled only by throttle.

And do not apply too much pressure on brakes,  P-51 will tip over the nose.

I always taxi with my tail wheel locked and speed from 10 to 20 kts, that way I am able to make turns with differential braking, and if the speed becomes too high I cut the throttle.
