Mike_Romeo Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 The Mi-8, Ka-50 and Mi-24 are all using the R-828 radio but only the Mi-24 has a channel 0 for that radio. Is that realistic at all ? If they all are useing the same radio, shouldnt they all have a channel 0 or no 0 channel ? 1 My skins
Rongor Posted October 12, 2021 Posted October 12, 2021 (edited) Not sure about the RL counterparts but the R-863 even has different frequency ranges between different helo models. Sorry, doesn't answer the question, I know. What might help is the fact that in most cases what we see in the cockpits aren't the actual radio sets but only their remote control panels. So it doesn't really matter to the actual radio if the mechanical dial in the cockpit has a channel number 0 or 12 or AB or animal symbols written on it. The radio has that many channels with preset freqs as the dial has available channels to set. You only need to know which number to dial at the control panel to access which freq in the radio. So the freq your R-828 is working on channel 2 in your helo might very well be different to the freq of channel 2 of the R-828 of your wingman. Edited October 12, 2021 by Rongor I like editing stuff
Solution molevitch Posted October 14, 2021 Solution Posted October 14, 2021 The 828 and the 863 in both the Mi-8 and the Mi-24 have frequencies preset in the Mission Editor per aircraft. In the Mi-8, the selector is above the pilot's right shoulder on the overhead console, with a choice of 20 presets and AM/FM choice. These can be edited from the defaults as you wish. The Mi-8 also has the option to manually tune the 863 to selected frequencies while in the aircraft, on the console between the Crew Chief's feet. On the real dialler with the red cross, for the 863 with 20 x presets, the numbers go from 0 to 19. I have an authentic one of these in my pit, and it is a clockwork wonder! The same system applies to the 828 running from 0-9. 3 SCAN Intel Core i9 10850K "Comet Lake", 32GB DDR4, 10GB NVIDIA RTX 3080, HP Reverb G2.
