I recall there was always talk about the clouds having almost no performance impact prior to their release, but I'm finding that the more/thicker the clouds, the worse the performance is.

With something like the light or high scattered presets, or many of the broken presets, I get a locked 45fps in VR. With any of the overcast presets my framerates get knocked down to 25 or 30. With overcast and rain my framerates are down to 20 despite there being no actual animated rain.

The cloud quality setting doesn't seem to affect the performance, so something else must be afoot. Shadows? Ambient occlusion? Any ideas as to what setting can be reduced to improve overcast or rain framerates?
