Pirimeister Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I love helicopters and I love DCS' helicopters but I'm on the fence regarding buying this module. Not because I doubt its quality, but because I can see the level of complexity will be high. So my question is how feasable will it be to have the AI flying the helicopter (in SP) with "Jester wheel commands" so that you can focus on "front seater" stuff? I as this because I recently saw a video showing Jester piloting the F-14 via commands, while the player did the RIO stuff. And yes, I'm aware that the Apache can be flown from both seats but in the case of the high-tech machine, I'm much more interested in the CPG position, without having to worry about piloting as well. (of course, I'm assuming that the level of flying will be more generic and less focused than with a person doing it. "Go here and hover" "displace lateraly x meters", that kind of stuff).
kgillers3 Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I imagine it’s something similar to the hind. Where it keeps an attitude and keeps the aircraft from burning in. Driven off of your ai command inputs. But if you wanna boil it down, bs’s basic role is to keep the aircraft from hitting other things and drive the front seat around.

I would look towards the DCS Mi-24 Hind for a closer analogy of what to expect in the AH-64 module. The F-14 is a Heatblur product, and their implementation of an AI crewmember is something they've done in-house. Eagle Dynamics made the Mi-24 module with the "Petrovich" AI crewmember for both seats, and have mentioned in the AH-64D FAQ section that the Apache will have a modified "Petrovich" AI named "George", that is suited for the AH-64. Just keep in mind that even though the Hind has been out since this summer, the "Petrovich" AI is still an early WIP, and they are updating his "skills" periodically. I would assume the same process will be the case with "George". Edited November 23, 2021 by Raptor9 Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man. Pirimeister Posted November 23, 2021 Author Posted November 23, 2021 So in the medium/long run it will be a fullu fleshed feature?

I think you need to ask yourself what you're actually wanting. My opinion is that the AI is a medium that allows 1 player to have control over both cockpits in a dual pilot aircraft. Or in the F14's case a Pilot and a RIO. If you're goal is to have an automated pilot behind you drive you around then likely no. That's likely not going to be a thing. If your goal is to tell it to do something as you maneuver around, then yeah that functionality should be there and as it improves more and more bugs will be removed as time goes by. I mean I don't have the 14, but from what I've seen, jester doesn't just pop up and say hey we're past waypoint 10, i'm switching to air to air vertical or whatever. You select that stuff. Or maybe i'm wrong Idk. If that's not your thing and nothing wrong with it, the KA-50 is around, it's designed around single pilot. All my opinion, could be wrong.
