HMD brightness

On a bright day it is near impossible to pick out flight members with current max brightness level of the f-18 HMD

And conversely, at night the HMD never really goes dim enough

Does anyone know a LUA hack to help this?  In the PG during the day the HUD and the HMD both are so washed out that they become mostly useless.  This seems especially unreal on the HMD since it's projected onto a tinted visor which you would think be unaffected by the outside light.
