Graphics card ? GTX 1070

Been seeing 8 gb gtx 1070's on ebay now and thinking about upgrading from my amd radeon 550. I have a low end system dell t3600 xeon 1650 3.2g and 32gb ram with ssd hard drives. Been playing the f18 campainge "Rise of the Persion Lion" at 1080p and averaging mid 30fps down to 25 it a lot stuff happening.  How did the 1070 do? I'm happy with the quality of the graphics  would like to bump up my fps a touch.

My old 1070 would pull about 45-50 fps on maximum settings at 1080p, that is with a faster cpu to drive it though, didn't cut the mustard for VR though so grabbed a 3070.

What budget are you looking at?  I sold my 1070 back in November on ebay and bidding went up to £341, for that money you can almost have a 3060ti which will blow a 1070 out of the water.  In the end my 1070 to 3070 upgrade cost me 24 quid out of pocket; £469 for the gpu - £150 xmas cash bonus - £295 for the 1070 (after ebay fees etc) simply the cheapest GPU upgrade I've ever made

If you're in the UK or EU then sign up to the telegram channel FEPartAlert, that will ping when the 30xx nvidia card stocks come in and if you're quick enough you will get one for msrp.  You may have to be patient, the drops are pretty regular once a month, the last one was last week.

@Tomcat388th You need both cpu and card upgrade. And yes, you'll need new RAM too. There's no other way, sorry.

Until a few weeks ago I was running a 1070M (Aorus X7V7) in VR with acceptable results.  The Hind on the Marianas was a no-go, and and unit-heavy scenarios were also out, but it worked well in NTTR, SoH and Caucasus for simpler SP missions.

No VR for me and I'm located in the US. At some point I know I will have to build a newer system to keep up. As for prices some of the mid level GPU's cost more than my whole setup minus my win wing f18 hotas.  I had a flakey 570 8gb that finally died but it kept me in the 50's on most stuff and I'll probably shop around a bit more and see what else pops up. The 1070's were running anywhere from $220   $320 on ebay used.

1070 wouldn't be a bad stop gap and wouldn't be too far out of balance with the rest of your hardware, but for the money the 3060ti would be better and put you further forward on the future upgrade path. From my research when I picked up my 1070 a few years back, they were faster than the RX580 so that should give you some judge of expected performance.
