A/P Ref takes multiple attempts to engage!

I turn on Altitude Hold, and Autopilot, then NWS/AP to engage, But it takes several tries at engaging for the A/P Ref light to go out. Anyone know why?

is it a bug?

HOTAS? software?

I use a TMWH, and use Sedenions Complete 128 DX script which is coded correctly for A-10 A/P all modes. If you are using some other HOTAS I'm afraid this won't help you.

I find it works better when your climb rate is close to 0 for some time
