Sorry newbie question here.

I'm working my way through all the F18 missions in DCS and I can't quite figure out how the scoring works.  Do I get points for landing back at base after an air strike or can I just end the missions?

I just completed the CASE carrier landing Stage 1 and received a score of 0 despite landing successfully (line 4....i don't wanna talk about it).  Do I have to park the aircraft to get a score?  I was approved for approach and landing.

If there's a tip sheet or guide on how missions are scored that would be really helpful.

The score is usually gained by destroying enemy units. How many for which one is decided by mission creator. Case I training is not at all about score unless we're talking about Bankler's one - but it uses its own script for that - or the LSO score - these are real but you need Supercarrier module to use them.

Ahh.  Okay.  Thanks.  I have the carrier group, but was just going through the DCS missions that come with the F18 module in DCS.  It drives me crazy to complete a mission and get a 0 or a 40/100 when I don't understand what the criteria for success is.

Looks like that's just how it's build though, so i'll try and move on and just use them as a training tool.

In my SP experience DCS missions and campaigns do not care about score at all. In campaigns the result value decides about mission success (promotion) and sometimes tells about its completness. It's up to the mission designer.

They can because there are triggers that look at player score. However it isn't always clear what, if any, triggers a mission maker sets up for the result or if the player score is used without looking at it in the editor. Guess my point is it is far more likely to see unit or group is dead conditions than player score greater/less than.

It is rather hit and miss whether or not a non campaign mission has goals (result score) setup within. I think it was more common with older missions than newer ones. Outside of the usage within campaigns it has no impact at all on your logbook. It is purely relevant to the debrief screen, though quite a few people do use it to judge success.

I started flying missions a bit more than a year ago. Found out real quick you need scores to move to the next mission. Maybe 4-5 months ago DCS came out w/ a way that you could move on regardless of score. So I got used to looking at scores. But I also go back to DCS provided missions. The page looks the same but what scores that show up don't seem to mean much. Same w/ SP missions from the user files. And there is both a score and a result ( I think those are the terms) which are different. I wouldn't mind scores but I suspect they must be difficult to set up when writing a mission so I doubt we will see much of them.
