RJ45 problem

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I apologize for my inexperienced blunders, but could someone maybe explain it to me? I got a CAT6 cable and CAT6 connectors, but my network cable will not fit in the RJ45 CAT6 connector. Am I doing something wrong? I thought a CAT6 cable could be terminated with an RJ45 connector like a CAT5 cable... However, I've seen that CAT6 small cables are significantly wider than CAT5 cables.

HI. makes no sense to me cat5 and cat 6 are same size connector. RJ-45.

maybe more info. Are you putting your own connectors on the cables with a tool for the RJ-45 ?

You might try Youtube for more info

also this thread should be in the tech section

Cat 6 is larger ga wire then cat V,( 23ga vs 24ga), if you’re terminating it on your own, you need CAT6 rj45’ s , a cat 5 rj45 wont work since its made for smaller ga wire. As far as the wall jack vs the rj45 outer dimension, they are the same as far as I know. But If you’re putting your own ends on a cable then you need the right rj45’s
