So off the bat my specs are as follows:

i910900k

Gigabyte Master 3080

64gb DDR4 ram (Corsair vengeance at 3400mhz)

Reverb G2 (brand new and delivered yesterday)

WMR, SteamVR and everything up to date, Shadowplay etc disabled. (Windows 11)

Steamvr settings

  • Refresh Rate @ 90hz
  • Render resolution > Custom > 50% (2236 x 2192)

WMR is at default settings

DCS settings attached

When booting into WMR or steam vr performance is fine. it all goes belly up when I start flying DCS.

When I initially load in there is an incredible amount of flickering and crazy light shows, I can access settings and change values etc.

However when I try and jump in to fly in VR I either get loads of flickering for 3 minutes and a  black screen or CTD, OR Loads of flickering and a stop motion type viewing in the actual pit.

With the latter I can see the loaded dcs on my monitor and it moves around with headset movement (albeit slow)

Occasionally I have a mouse cursor that does not move in the VR headset but does outside.

Any help would be incredibly appreciated!

* note being I have now turned off the depth of field and lens effects!

I'm just going to address the performance problems , as the black screen and mouse problems are generally fixed with a reboot .

Your DCS settings are way too high . Drop 4x MSAA to 2x . Turn off SSAA  (doesn't do anything in VR anyway) . Turn off SSAO , SSLR and cockpit global illumination . Terrain shadows to flat .

I highly recommend you get FPS VR from Steam . This will give you the info you need to help with tweaking , in particular by showing you gpu/cpu loadings .

So the black screen and mouse issues seem to come when I launch from Steam VR with WMR and STEAMVR open. If I launch DCS from desktop with nothing open I get into the pit just fine.

Would anyone know if the resolution options from steamvr apply if you just boot from desktop? does it need to be open first?

I found disabling steam overlay etc has worked its magic quite a bit and I am getting in the pit and taking off.

Good to know about some of the other things I can turn off though. I will get to them now. Thank you.

What do you call the (steam overlay)? And what effect does it have to turn it off?

I turned that off and it helped massively! I can get in the pit now and take off. I would consider it a matter of tuning now 🙂 Thank you bud!!

I think the first task for a new user is to get the durn thing running. I'd turn everything off or down to minimum in DCS settings, set steam general 100%, per-app 100%, pd 1.0 and take her for a spin. Tune from there using fpsVR.

Bottom line, you should be able to run at full resolution, high textures, high vis range, trees to match, AF 16.  Possibly shadows.  Dont count on getting any MSAA. Everything below MSAA is off.

Note full resolution is 100%

Dont be sad, the G2 at native is glorious to behold. Don't need no stinking eye candy.

All that flickering and gagging when you boot up DCS or start a mission is normal.  Don't give yourself a seizure. Once you're in the cockpit it should be smooth but you have to restart DCs about every third mission, and clean out your shader files now and every time you update to keep it that way

+! This is good advice.  I launch DCS from the desktop and I don't even put my headset on until I'm loaded into the cockpit.
