DeltaMike Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 (edited) Review Can't try in VR until my actual plane gets in tonight. However we have reason to think it won't be any different from fholgers implementation, with two fewer degrees of freedom. Which is good, to the extent it'll reduce some of the drama involved getting 6700xt working with the G2. Potentially helpful for 6800 or 6900 as well depending on how you like to roll. Maybe I can get my shadows back, or fly in Marianas without puking eh. Speaking of which, 6700xt is currently available and priced below $800 US on Newegg. Hopefully it works. Article is worth reading regardless. Edited March 18, 2022 by DeltaMike Ryzen 5600X (stock), GBX570, 32Gb RAM, AMD 6900XT (reference), G2, WInwing Orion HOTAS, T-flight rudder
Svsmokey Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Seems to be some confusion regarding requirement for developer support ? 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
DeltaMike Posted March 18, 2022 Author Posted March 18, 2022 Developers have a choice of scaling some things, and rendering others at native resolution. Which I'll admit is pretty cool. Rest of us pretty much have to scale the whole scene after the fact. Which is fine, for DCS anyway. AMD isn't keeping it a big secret, it's the same protocol fholger uses in vrperfkit and other mods. TED Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Not actually sure this works with steam vr. I just tested it but didn’t seem to work. I’ll have to look into it more tomorrow. Be great if it does, but I have a feeling steamvr gets in the way. I be very pleased if I’m wrong and someone can get this to work.
DeltaMike Posted March 19, 2022 Author Posted March 19, 2022 I can't get it to work either Ryzen 5600X (stock), GBX570, 32Gb RAM, AMD 6900XT (reference), G2, WInwing Orion HOTAS, T-flight rudder
TED Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 I don’t know…I’m a bit confused by it. I activated and then lowered steamvr res to 60% and quality looked same as full resolution, so perhaps it is working. I will need to look closer at frame times. I just don’t get any upscale status indication anywhere.

AMD's documentation states fullscreen mode is required for it to be active. I managed to get non-VR DCS working using fullscreen mode as the indicator on the AMD toolbar showed it was active, whereas in VR mode it never showed up as such. I did a few more tries and could not get it to work. I gave up and went back to using openfsr.

DeltaMike Posted March 22, 2022 Author Posted March 22, 2022 Nothing wrong with openfsr anyway. Ryzen 5600X (stock), GBX570, 32Gb RAM, AMD 6900XT (reference), G2, WInwing Orion HOTAS, T-flight rudder

Will be nice however if and when amd have an inbuilt solution that matches or exceeds openfsr and we don’t have to modify game files and folders.
DeltaMike Posted March 23, 2022 Author Posted March 23, 2022 (edited) Yeah, although if I were ED, I don't know that I would budget for that. The main benefit in integrating FSR is, it allows you add overlays after the fact. So I could see the advantages in, I dunno, Deus Ex? So all that crap at the bottom of the screen doesn't have to go through scaling. I'll bet DCS would just as soon have the compositor handle all that, which isn't their problem. Maybe Steam will pick it up. I mean, fholger already did all the work for em. Now that would be an improvement. Get rid of those ridiculous sliders and just give us a choice of four modes: Ultra, Quality, Performance, and Potato. Life would be sooooooo much easier. (I read somewhere that "potato" is an actual setting in the Pimax runtime C'mon, Steam! Don't let Pimax win the "features" race!)
