Ignition Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 So, we can load in a few seconds 4 GBU-12 with the engines on, but to change the codes of the bombs we need to shut down the aircraft. Doesn't make much sense to me. Why the bombs can't be loaded WITH the new codes?

Frederf Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 The kneeboard code is a "policy" and this policy is applied to all weapons including those currently mounted. Changing these would be unrealistic. There isn't a separate policy for weapons-yet-to-be-added. Realistically if you asked for armament that was beyond fuel and A2A missiles with the airplane running it would tell you unable. I think based on the new images of the stores configuration feature that the armament screen will have per-store configuration (fuze, laser code, etc.) which will render the kneeboard policy entries of all modules obsolete. I doubt there will be further development for kneeboard options for items which this new feature will handle better. 1

It's not a major problem when you start cold (unless you forgot to change the code before you are ready to taxi which is 90% of the time for me), but when you land and rearm it doesn't have any sense, and it has been like this since years? while some aircraft can change the code magically from the cockpit. I forgot about the new rearm window, I'll check it again. I remember seen the news but really didn't pay much attention since it was really green in its development.
Floydii Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 It's clearly an abstraction that codes can be changed on the kneeboard (just like re-arming in 30 seconds or fully repairing in a few minutes), the fact you have to shut down the jet to do so is unnecessarily onerous. I would prefer that it could be done as long as the jet is halted and in range of a rearm point. Ditto for harrier settings
