clauridsen Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 In the f-16 community there is a lot of books, where you can read real life stories about f-16 pilot. Like vipers in the storm and so on. Is there also a bunch of apache pilots who have written books about their experience? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 1
Swift. Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Ed Macy has a couple of good books: "Hellfire" and "Apache". Its about British Apaches, if that matters to you. 476th Discord | 476th Website | Swift Youtube Ryzen 5800x, RTX 4070ti, 64GB, Quest 2
ED Team Raptor9 Posted April 15, 2022 ED Team Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) Those books are entertaining if not 100% accurate. The experiences while deployed to the Helmand province are a good read, however there is some embellishment and inaccurate info when it comes to descriptions about the Apache itself. I know there are differences in the UK Apache versus the American AH-64D, but some of the statements in that book regarding common systems are misleading at best and outright false at worst. Not to trash-talk Ed Macy, that's not my intention; he sounds like a great warfighter and they are indeed good reads. Just take some of the Apache-related info with a grain of salt. I will warn you about a book called Pale Horse by Jimmy Blackmon. It has an Apache helicopter on the cover but that is about as much interesting info you will get about it, mostly false advertising. It's written from the perspective of the unit commander (the author), and from what I heard from pilots that served under him while on that deployment, he spent most of his time during that deployment writing that book instead of actually leading the unit. Madman777 Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 I just finished Apache Dawn, by Damien Lewis. British Apache pilots in Afghanistan. Really good book. And after reading the DCS Apache manual, I was surprised on some of the correct details of systems. i7-12700k, 32GB Ram, RTX 3060 12GB, TrackIR 5, Lots of SSD Space, etc etc DCS World - All the cool modules
Toge Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 There's also Dressed to Kill by Charlotte Madison, also a British Apache pilot writing about some of the same events as Ed Macy and Damien Lewis (most notably the Jugroom Fort case). Nice point of view on what it was like to be the first female Apache pilot in British military. 1 1
