Advice on PC upgrade for DCS in VR

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am planing to upgrade my PC config. as I play DCS (also IL2 & MSFS2020) in VR on a HP reverb G2. and I would say that most of the time performances are marginal.

Here is my current config :

MB : Asus Z270-A

CPU : i7-7700K

Ram : G.Skills Ripjaws5 2x8Gb 3200Mhz DDR4

GPU : Asus GTX1070 Dual 8BG

SSD : M.2 500Gb Samsung 960Evo

PSU : Corsair Hx650W

I was thinking that I could get the biggest improvement/value by upgrading only the GPU & RAM.

I think my CPU is still 'decent', obtaining a significant upgrade in performance from tat side, I would probably have to change socket (i9-9900K is the best I could gate keeping the same socket) but then I need to also upgrade the MB, so I don't think it is worth it in terms of Performance upgrade/cost.

So I am hesitating between upgrading to:

  • 32Gb Ram & a RTX3080 (10Gb Vram)
  • Or 64Gb Ram & a RTX1070Ti (8GbVram)

Which do you think will give me the best bang for buck ?

I going the 3080 way, do you guys think I should change my PSU ? Pc part picker says the build will consume 555W so, in theory enough for the PSU, but not so much margin...

Thanks a lot guys!

I´ll will go the 32 Gb + 3080 route if you find good prices.

Maybe you are running out of power from that PSU.... Maybe. But if you plan to change the PSU too: keep in mind that next gen GPU and CPUs are near and (in that case) you better wait, save money and build a new and fresh Pc from scratch at the end of the year.
