aholmberg Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 Just started to learn the F16 and wondering if it is possible to slew the TGP to a position similar as you can in the F18? I know that you can create a mark/steerpoint and slew and via that get the TGP to a position but is it possible to just via the HMCS mark an area then the TGP will slew to that position?
twistking Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 (edited) Yes, you can designate a SPI via HMCS and all sensors will slave to that automatically. On the F-16 this functionality is strongly dependant on the weapon mode, so you'd need to choose a weapon mode that awaits HUD/HMCS designation. That would be "VIS" for Mavericks and JDAM and "DTOS" for other Bombs i think. Those will give you HUD as SOI as default but you can switch to HMCS from there and refine with TGP after designation. Search for Matt Wagner's video on DTOS. That should have you covered... Why is it called DTOS though??? RuskyV Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 As an option if you wanted to you can dump a mark point down using the HMCS and cue A2G weapons to it.
Bunny Clark Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 The basic workflow is to select VIS or DTOS as the delivery mode, push TMS Up Long until the TD Box is slaved to the HMD cross, then look at the target and press TMS Up to lock it in place. You can then slew it around with the Cursor. All other sensors and weapons will slave to that point, so select another sensor as SOI and refine your target from there. 4 hours ago, twistking said: Why is it called DTOS though??? DTOS stands for "Dive / Toss" and was originally conceived as a automated delivery visual bombing mode using the HUD as the targeting sensor. Fly or slew the TD box over the target, TMS up to ground stabilize, slew to refine. Then either fly the ASL in a dive delivery, or pull up on cue to toss the bomb. Because it uses the computer to release the bomb, it's generally considered to be more accurate than CCIP. The A-7 had a very similar bombing mode, and the Hornet's Auto bomb mode is pretty close too. In the Viper, this mode gained new functionality as an easy way to visually designate a target using the HUD or HMD and get the TGP on it. 1 Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. SickSidewinder9 Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 I did notice some mav slewing with my head. That was kinda bad ass. Did DTOS mode JDAMs just disappear or was it never there? Vis mode with CCRP is basically the same, but not quiiiiiiite as quick. Also, no ripple settings for gbu-38s? What's up with that? And is LGB spacing in length or width, if used? I have not seen that specified.
Brainfreeze Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 In VIS mode you cannot create a markpoint with HMCS first and then refine it with TGP. The TGP will slew to the markpoint if you select it as steerpoint but then any refinement will be a target point ... which will then not show in your HUD if you switch to CCIP bombing mode i9 14900K / 64GB / RTX 4090 / Varjo Aero / Winwing Orion2 + F15EX / Virpil Wrbrd + Alpha Stick + ACE pedals
