OLD CROW Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 I've noticed that, at least, in the caucasus dogfight vs. Su-27 and in the Syria vs. F-15 and vs. 2x F-16 instant action missions the AFCS Roll switch is in OFF position once you spawn in air and it needs to be switched on manually before entering the fight. No, that is most likely intentional, as far as I know it was common procedure in the real aircraft to switch roll SAS off while preparing the aircraft for air combat manoeuvring. I‘m sure someone more knowledgeable can give you a better explanation, I think it has to do with the high AOA regime encountered during manoeuvring, where the SAS didn’t work so well. regards, Snappy 2 1
draconus Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 http://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/general.html#afcs-automatic-flight-control-system Quote Roll SAS should not be used for situations involving flight at AOA above 15 units and should therefore be set to off for combat maneuvers. 3 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
WarthogOsl Posted June 14, 2022 Posted June 14, 2022 In the Zone 5 campaign, part of the fence in procedure (read off by F-14 RIO "Bio") for going into BFM was to switch off roll SAS. That said, not all pilots turned it off while dogfighting.
