Grodin Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 When trying to land on water, odd stuff happens, sometimes my chopper just blows up, sometimes it only catches fire and blows up later.. And if i have landing gear down, they will twist and go nuts when they touch water. Can't sink in there, this thing just blows up. Just me? Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
hitman Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I noticed this a long time ago...apparently your not supposed to land in water cuz bad things happen. Simple solution is to not land in the water. :)
Grodin Posted December 27, 2008 Author Posted December 27, 2008 I noticed this a long time ago...apparently your not supposed to land in water cuz bad things happen. Simple solution is to not land in the water. :) And to avoid landing in water one should avoid getting shot over water, wich would mean one shouldn't play missions where you have to fly over water. I say it's an issue. :smilewink: Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
Airway Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Hmm, Grodin - what might the ejection seat be for? Never saw someone make an emergency landing on water with a helicopter because they sink and the pilot might drown, lacking the possibility to get out of the aircraft. It's the same reason why cars don't park in lakes, rivers or in the sea. :megalol:

Yeah what might the ejection seat be for, how about we have FSX like "You crashed - simulation stopped" message every time you crash, realistic damage modeling would be quite odd in a sim wouldnt it? Why can we shoot aircraft with our cannons, u arent supposed to do that with this specific aircraft really so no point modeling it in? I could go on.. ps. If you lose control of a car and it accidentally flies into a river, you think it would blow up / vaporize leaving nothing behind, just because you were not SUPPOSED to "park" it there..? Yeah go tell the driver "what did you think those pedals and wheel are for?" Edited December 27, 2008 by Grodin Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
Airway Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Actually the insurance will ask you this question and send you the invoice ;) To get back to the topic: So you are complaining about the behaviour of the Ka-50 in the simulation relating it's uplift or non, in water? Actually I don't think real helicopter pilots were trained to land in water but maybe recommended to use the ejection seat. Even if they consist partly of light compostite materials and should be able to stay at top of the water. I wouldn't try to land on water and manually get out of the cockpit already because water and electricity don't really fit together and would not like trying to test the fuses. 400Hz, capacitors... And as water is not a solid ground and water not always flat - especially when a helicopter just dropped in, I wouldn't think that I could open the door before the damn helicopter would flip to the side suck me down with it into the wide open sea. So when I think about that, I don't give much about the non simulated behaviour of the helicopter in water the same like I don't give much about the non ability of ships to slide when they run onto the beach or cars to spin when they crash into the sea, or metal to glow when a bullet just hit. In my opinion you are complaining about something not helicopter, flying or ground combat related.
Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Grodin, why are you so fixated on landing on water when there are plenty of other aspects you can explore and have fun with?
Fishu Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 especially when a helicopter just dropped in, I wouldn't think that I could open the door before the damn helicopter would flip to the side suck me down with it into the wide open sea. That's why you're supposed to open/dump the door before ditching in water.
Shrubbo Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I think he has a point in pointing out the fact that if you touch water the helicopter does not behave as it should. I too would like it to do what it should when it hits water, the same as I would like it to do what it would in real life if it hits a tree etc However in saying that it will never be changed in this engine because as far as I understand it this engine is eventually going to be replaced by something that isn't years old. So I'm with you mate, I want wet feet and fish pissing out the door. Just not in this engine :) i9-9900K,Z390 Aorus Master, 32GB GSkill Trident F4-3600 DDR4, ROG Strix RTX 2080 Ti, Oculus Rift S. VikVaughan Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Grodin' date=' why are you so fixated on landing on water when there are plenty of other aspects you can explore and have fun with?[/quote'] Because EVERY aspect of a sim counts. That's the point of an in depth simulation. Things like this ruin the immersion. Unfortunately there are many other things like this in DCS, and so far, I haven't found it to be a psychologically fulfilling sim that makes you feel like your an inch away from the real thing. The aircraft was modeled in painstaking detail, but it feels like many other aspects of reality were ignored or made as an afterthought. Tango Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Hi, I know what the OP means to an extent - I find it very difficult sometimes to land on the land without bouncing around crazily. The only safe spots are roads and rooftops. I still feel more "involved" with the entire world when I play Falcon 4I think I know why you feel that way (<< long time F4 pilot here), but forgetting the fact that individual missions are scripted, the units themselves have autonomy (or seem to) to an extent, so that's good enough for me! I've got over the whole scripted campaign thing now. Best regards, Tango.
Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I still feel more "involved" with the entire world when I play Falcon 4 :( That's funny because I feel a lot more involved with the entire world when I'm out and about and not stuck on my computer all day. LOL What does Falcon 4 have to do with my question anyway?
Airway Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Did the F-16 sink in water in Falcon 4? I don't remember
VikVaughan Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Did the F-16 sink in water in Falcon 4? I don't remember Indeed it does, the water also splashes on impact (albeit graphically unimpressive). Gael Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Perhaps that's what happened to you: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=G9DAZ6YdpVY So it's not a bug... it's a feature :D
