My wingman does nothing to help, just flies circles while I deal with 4 bandits, burn my fuel off or just auger in.  Gonna shoot my wingman down myself!

As you approach the bandits you are told to attack the two bandits on the right and leave the two on the left to 410. Did you do that?

Your wing man (410) is scripted to only attack the two bandits on the left as you view them as they first approach, he will then orbit until the other two are dealt with.  So if you take out the two on the left  you will be left to take out the two on the right as well. Have had to settle for this compromise because if I script 410 to attack all bandits all the player has to do is orbit  clear of the fight and let 410 deal with all the bandits. Had this before which obviously attracts a lot of criticism.

Do you think this is what happened. Other than that could be the AI has broke again. Let me know please. If you have Tacview a Tacview file of the mission would really be useful to pin what happened. (Tracks are no good as they don't work well in these situations.) 

All worked well last time I flew the mission.

I did not hear the instruction to engage the 2 right bandits...was it a female voice if so I may be conditioned to ignore those since Im a married man...:-P

Engange the targets on right, does that mean right as viewed from my pov? Becasue that does not seem like a good tactic as my wingman does not engage the left targets right away and they are the ones who gets there first. So if I don't engage them, I will get shot down before getting a chance to go for the right ones. I've attached a picture from Tacview showing my wingman heading due east, and I'm about to get shot down.

Hi, will have a look at it. It is scripted that 410 should be engaging the two on the left (pov). The one attacking aircraft should not be so far in front of the other three.

The trouble is that there has and is  so many ED updates to the AI that things that once worked no longer work as expected. 
 

Have you tried a second time to see what happens. Sometimes you can get a strange AI reaction every now and again. Notice you have Tacview. If it does happen again could you send me the Tacview file. That would be really useful.

I’m away for work now, but I’ll see if I can send you that file soon, probably Wednesday. 
I did give it another shot yesterday, and decided to attack the first target from the left group. Fired a couple of sidewinders on the second guy, but he shot me down shortly afterwards.

Looking at tacview (sorry, screenshot of it), my wingman is still flying east and show no signs of setting up for an attack.

But I will try again when I get back home and send you the tacview file.

I have done an initial partial check of that part of the mission which worked ok. I will do a more detailed one.

One thing that can cause this behaviour, and more than one pilot has encountered it is 410 running out of fuel. In this case he will indeed abandon you for obvious reasons. As I set out in the brief you need give 410 time to join you and only fly fast when you need to.  If not 410 may be on afterburner a lot of the time and will run out of fuel well before you. Also, if you have taken a lot of time around the island to complete the objectives this can also add to this.  Try slowing down when you don't need to and fly at appropriate speeds to ensure 410 does not run out of fuel. This may or may not be the issue, give it a try.

You could be correct there. I’ve been running max mil power to waypoint 2 to make the time, but I will try to slow down as making the time isn’t important. Will report back.

Yes, as you know they take a while to carry out the SEAD.
