Tango Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 What is it with autohover? WHY WON'T IT HOVER? If I hover, then activate the mode, it doesn't want to know. I want it to hold it where I put it. I know what has been said in the past regarding autohover and its use, but I need to use it as I can't fly and shoot at the same time (not enough hands/joysticks/keyboards). Best regards, Tango.
Chillspider Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 you gotta make sure before you switch to auto hover that you slow down and pull into a hover and get it trimmed out then hit the auto hover. Atleast thats what works for me i had same trouble at first. ED Team Wags Posted December 27, 2008 ED Team Posted December 27, 2008 Hover the Ka-50 Although there are many different methods to do this, one of the most simple is to increase pitch to 10-15 degrees, while simultaneously lowering the collective to maintain altitude. Pay close attention to the VVI to minimize altitude changes and use pedal input to maintain heading. Prevent the helicopter from greater than 3 m/s negative VVI or you may enter a vortex ring state. When you are in a stable deceleration, you can trim the helicopter in this position while you bleed off the airspeed. Keep watching the VVI and provide collective input as needed to keep the needle as close to '0' as possible. Generally, as you approach a low airspeed, you will need to increase the collective back up to prevent the helicopter from falling into a vortex ring state (uncontrollable vertical descent). When your speed falls to around 10 kph, press the auto-hover button and set trim again when the nose falls to the horizon. Smooth collective input is key to a successfull hover entry. Begin with gentler and longer decelerations (lower pitch angles). As you get better, you can become more aggressive and increase the pitch angles. Be careful, however, hot-shot pitch-ups can not only throw you into the vortex ring, but also break the helicopter! To adjust your hover position, move the controls smoothly and re-trim to set the FCS to maintain the new position. Do not resume normal flight while in auto-hover. Once established in a hover, you may want to lock a ground location with the Shkval and use the automatic turn to target to stabilize your yaw movement. Spartan1-1 Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 What worked for me was learning how to hover, and practice, first. Once in a hover ill make sure all my autopilot channels are armed and engage auto hover. Always works. The catch here is once you get used to hovering than the need to autohover becomes useless unless your gonna be sitting somewhere for awhile (i.e. beer run). I stopped using it altogether b/c the time it takes to settle into and get out of it has little combat application if there are potential shooters in the area IMO. Tango Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Hi, Got it figured out - I had FD mode on which prevents it working! :D I can hover on my own, no probs. ;) Just flying and shooting gets a bit much sometimes (no HOTAS). I've also tweaked FreeTrack so it is easier to use the cockpit now (disabled the Z axis). Best regards, Tango.
Tango Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 Hell yes I've cracked this now!! :D My SA just went up a few points. Best regards, Tango.
